Well... this thing appeared to me for free on Offer Up a few days ago.
The owner inherited the house from his grandparents and his wife was annoying him to get rid of all "that old junk".

Ok, I'm liking it a lot, come on, it's a Radarange! But I left his house frustrated when he told me a guy was super happy to take the washer to the recycling ler because it was too heavy. His wife made him get rid of it because it would probably be dangerous to use a "GAS WASHER-DRYER" that old and she hated that instead of filling with water it had just an "upside down waterfall" spraying the clothes. (When he mentioned that I started not feeling my legs and I did the stupidity to ask what brand it was and he said "I think RCA or something like that and Whirlpool".

He also has two wall ovens (Thermador, all stainless steel, a pink dishwasher a weird O'Keeffe and Meritt and a weird looking fridge that somewhat reminds me a Frigidaire flair stove, also pink and he'll let me know when it comes time to get rid of those. (Of course his wife wants stainless steel). The kitchen also has one of those Nutone things built in the counter.

Oh, note to add: the radarange was replaced by a Galanz "retro" microwave, cheap crap from Hell-mart because she wants a "vintage look". (Rolling eyes)

Now, back to the Radarange.... I'm curious... can anybody tell me everything about it? There is another one in the house, but it's built in and huge, it looks way older than mine.

That's a mighty fine Amana you picked up, and more specifically a model RR-3H. Short lived between the 1968 - 1970 RR-2 and the late 1971 RR-4, the 3H introduced a funky user controlled mechanical interlock that was mandated by the Feds, that by the time the 4 came around Amana worked around the mechanical requirements with a solenoid to manually lock the door. Check out Cory's site for the full deets.

And ugh, an upside down waterfall fill? Hopefully they were referring to a manual clean lint filter on a belt drive TL Whirlpool and not the elusive combo...

Is without a doubt one of the best Microwaves ever built.

Swestoyz....

They said it was a front load washer dryer combo, gas, and it was "rca and Whirlpool"

It went to the crusher a couple of hours before I arrived there.

The other radarange is there in the other kitchen but it probably won't last long, specially with his wife saying that thing could cause cancer because of the "radioactivity" old microwaves might leak because of aged insulation. (Rolling eyes)

The stainless steel ovens will also go because they are not "eco friendly" and don't have air fry feature. (More rolling eyes)

Cooktop will go just because it's outdated and they want to increase the home selling value.

Why do I have the feeling soon that home will have horrible brand new Frigidaire Appliances?

I would definitely kill to live in that house. It has EVERYTHING I always wanted, including the full basement with a kitchen that is nearly impossible to find in LA, specially in a MCM house.

I forgot to mention, they also have an electric GE barbecue grill that is huge and it's turquoise, That one the idiot wants to repaint and keep because it gives a nice vintage look to the pool area.

I sense a divorce in someone's future, or at least many years of unhappiness. I never could understand people who waste money replacing something perfectly good just because it's old.

Congrats on your radar range acquisition!

Sounds like a rare relic of a RCA Whirlpool gas combo added $20 to a scrapper’s pocket.

I remember we'd a microwave from the 1980s, bought in Ireland and was branded Electrolux, but it was definitely made by Tappan and looked very similar to some of the US models of that era, although obviously it was designed for 230V 50Hz power.

It was a pretty large, flat bed machine with a stirrer in the roof and a removable ceramic ceiling and a browner/broiler element that never got used the entire time that I remember it being around.

Seemed like a pretty good machine - solidly built and lasted a long, long time.

Congrats on the acquisition! May you enjoy it for years to come :-)

#4 Agreed; Divorce and/or unhappiness. The wife either has unreliable information sources, imagines her info, or has cognitive issues. It doesn't really matter. The result is the same: Decisions made according to fantasy, not fact.

More likely than not she'll continue to waste money by finding more things that 'need' to be replaced. Also more likely than not she'll eventually try to get rid of something HE places some value on...... Then the sparks will fly.....

I doubt there will be a divorce there.

None of them care. If I had the money, I'd buy that house as is, replace the carpet, repaint, maybe modernize the electrical or do some plumbing work and that's it.

It's a MCM house, miraculously with a full basement in Studio City. It has a nice swimming pool, very nice front and back gardens, radiator heating system (super rare here in California too), central air conditioner, a suspended "gyrofocus" fireplace in the main living room, a bathtub somewhat like the Cinderella, but not exactly that (it's square, but not with that diagonal cavity).

The basement has a secondary full kitchen, bathroom, a huge space and other rooms, it's almost like a second house buried under the house.

Next to the pool area there's a sauna. What could be better?

It is visible that whoever built that house had an excellent taste (for that time) and money wasn't a problem at all. It is visible that everything there was meticulously chosen.

The laundry room now has a Samsung front load pair that has that mini washer on top.

The view is breathtaking, but at the same time I thought that is definitely a place I don't want to be if a wildfire happens, anyway, if I had the money I'd definitely love to live there.

Grandparents definitely worked hard to build that house (or buy it, IKD), now the grandchildren are just interested on how much money they can make selling the house.

Lucky me! He has no clue that radarange is worth some money and maybe the radarange in the main kitchen (looks way older, built in) is worth even more. For him it's just an outdated appliance, garbage and I was very happy to have it being thrown in my "dumpster" LOL.

If I at least had some space, I'd grab at least the other microwave and the two Thermador ovens.
