Hello all, I am a brand new member who is the new owner of a vintage house with some very cool appliances all of which require repair. My Waste King dishwasher is leaking and I need to determine the model and if the parts are available. I cannot find any markings inside or in the door. I have attached a picture. It has been working for 4 months now and yesterday started leaking out the bottom. To my very limited knowledge and a quick look see I think it is the sump seal. Please let me know anything about this beauty, I really want to save it!!

Although I cannot find a picture in the service manual, I think it's a Waste King SS979. From like 1977 or a bit later.

Thank you for your reply! I was thinking it would be earlier as I believe it may be original to the house, which is 1959, but perhaps it was a later addition?

Could there have been too much suds in there?

Sometimes there can be foaming and a dishwasher will "drool" out the bottom of the door (it's not watertight).  One tip:  See if the short cycle is enough for washing your dishes, if it is using it could be a way to extend the life of the dishwasher.

Thanks, it’s definitely from underneath. I took off the kick plate and it seems to be right under where the sump seal is, hence trying to figure out the model so I may try to source the part.

Leaking WK DW

Hi Tara, it is likely either leaking from the pump shaft seal or the sump gasket where the whole pump and motor assembly fits into the DW tank.

If it is the sump gasket you can probably reseal it with a good marine sealant, if it is a shaft seal you have to disassemble the pump and rebuild it [ good luck ] getting it apart and finding parts.

It is not real likely you will get much more use out of this DW without problems, these were not durable machines even when new.

It's a sharp looking machine and they were quite pricey in their day comparatively speaking. Shame if it can't be fixed. Any other gems in your house left by the previous owners?

Tara, the link Petek provided is the older SS950. Yours has Super Scour instead of Cookware/Pots & Pans and Short Cycle instead of Fine China. Yours is newer than the S950 and I still think it's the SS979.

Wow you are all amazing! I took a picture of inside, see where the gasket shows rust - well that’s pretty much directly below the current leak.
I have used this daily since I moved in 4 months ago, and it just started leaking the other day. I have two other beauties in here (3 if you include the fan hood ) that have not worked since I moved in but I will be posting in the other sections for your advice because I really want to
Resurrect them.
But first, the dishwasher! ;)

that wallpaper (it's back in style) and brick vinyl floor, so '70s! don't let anyone convince you to "upgrade", vintage is good! best o' luck with your d/w, it's pretty too!
