Hey, is it normal to be able to turn the helical shaft back and forth?

Yes, it's normal. The plastic Delrin gear is splined to that shaft and spins the other gears.

Thanks Dan, oddly I never tried turning it. Could repositioning the spray fill hose inward so the water sprays directly into the tub cause some kind of leakage?
