Not sure from skipping through...

... but I think these are machine made in India?

If so I looked at some known manufacturers offerings there.
Their TOL machines are listed at around 58k rupee for WP for example, lets say that's 800$.
Which seems reasonable, right?

Median annual income is about 1600$ per person. However, the top 20% of households account for almost half the total.
So, that means that a HUGE amount of people actually make way less than 1600$.

Even at average, let's say spending 1 month salary on a new washer is a lot.
That would be 160$, thats like 12k rupee.
And when you take a look at the offers, everybody offers semi automatic TLs right around that price point.
And since that kind of washer only really has a huge market in India and neighbour countrys, making it there on demand per hand seems reasonable.

I think the washer is made in Pakistan.

Brilliant!

What makes economic washers like this possible is the use of a PSC motor, which eliminates the need for a transmission, and other complex drives. The motor can be stopped and started several times a minute without over heating via a simple SPDT timer contact.

The positioning of the impeller to the right with a slight tilt helps reduce tangling I think as its trying to mimic a front load.

Ideally I'd like to see the same but fully automatic- adding a water valve, drain pump and pressure switch. Fill wash drain, fill rinse drain, fill rinse drain over the course of a 35 minute cycle.

A GE filter flo out tub sized wash basket would be ideal in a 27(?) inch model.

US Manufacturers aren't listening, there is a growing market for low cost BOL and economy washers.

Unbelievable

This sets washing machine building back to the middle ages.

There’s absolutely no quality control these machines would be lucky to last a few months.

There’s no demand for this type of machine in the United States we have plenty of plastic things from laundry alternatives that are made in China that would far out do these machines.

I won’t even go into worker safety etc., but I guess everyone has to start somewhere but this factory has been badly surpassed in just about any part of the world.

You Know You Want To

I don't blame you. Follow your heart. If the wiring diagram is on the back or in the use and care manual you know the manufacturer cares about their design and the washer will be great.

I want an automatic version of this washer, preferably full size, but the one above is the next best thing. The impellar will do an excellent job of cleaning and provide loads fun to watch action. Timer gives you up to 15 minutes of wash, and you can select a vigorous two way wash action or a one way pulse wash. All fabrics are cared for this way. Quiet operation.

Home Depot sells several versions and sizes of this washer, both single and twin tub:

Use and care manual:

While these are not automatic, you'd be be surprised just how much these washer accomplish for their price.

Well, it does have "Japanese technology". As for the Home Depot washer. Something tells me it, and any other washer in the US market is vastly superior in terms of quality.

The ones made for the US market are of excellent quality. Powerful, quiet, durable and all around great for a semi automatic. Users often say how little detergent you need.

(I know, I wish parents would give their kids privacy, but its the only two vids that go into concise detail on how to use these washers)

I don't think I saw a single pair of gloves while handling all those sharp edges.  Hands must be pretty calloused!

Nice!

chetlaham's profile picture
Technically, if that transmission clutches, with a pump and a fill valve you've got an automatic model. ;)

Only thing I don't like is the lack of earth/equipment ground on the plug but given the country/market its directed at likely none of the homes have 3 slot outlets.

Neat video it is a shame though that people end up destroying their bodies so fast working like this today, this is almost a throw back in time of a 100 years or so.

Thanks for posting Louie

Here is a video assembling twin tubs. Video is a bit shaky and turney, just a warning ahead of time:

What a difference in manufacturing! And the machine looks quite decent too! There were moments I wanted to smack the camera operator but it was still very watchable. Thanks Chetlaham.
