 Can any of the servicers advise whether the screens in this style inlet valve can be removed for cleaning? Attempting to clean the cold side thus far, the screen won't come out grabbing with flat-end pliers and pulling with reasonable force, although it can be rotated. It's seriously clogged with rust flakes and other debris. I'm trying at this point to flush the debris with a turkey basting syringe but there are bits deep into the circumference that are resistant to dislodging. Haven't yet checked the hot side. Complaint was spin troubles, confirmed as bad suspension rods and I also pulled the basket to clean the exterior of it and the tub. Will advise the client to add supply hose screens at the faucet ends.

Kenmore model 110.20022013. 8-1/2 yo per serial. VMW with standard dual-action agitator. No load sensing, four manual water level choices. A basic, reasonably usable machine. Bearings are as yet quiet. Arrived with back of the console dented/mangled (drain hose was stuffed in there for transport), straightened it best as I minimally could. Replaced the bleach funnel which presumably was knocked out by the bouncing tub, along with the tub ring damage (I Gorilla-taped the split section). This is the first VMW of similar age I've seen with no rusting or bubbled paint around the bleach funnel mount. No pic of the cold valve screen. Last pic is the old suspension rods. | ||

It was a repair for an acquaintance, not a keeper or seller. I don't know if it was a good idea but I wrapped foil tape around the edge of the bleach funnel area to perhaps ward-off future rusting. I considered doing that around the edge of the lid and the loading port (where the paint is thin and deteriorated) but there's no way to conceal it in those areas. VMW design doesn't have a tub support with centerpost to contain the spin tube. The entire exposed outer shaft is the spin drive.
