EXCELLENT video, thanks for sharing! That black Easy agitator you put in the Spindrier looks like the one in Robert's automatic.

Mikeyd----

Thanks---that was fun!

The trick on getting those old agitators to look so new and shiney is to go to "Blowes" and get a spray can of "Rust-o-leum" Crystal Clear Enamel------over where the spray paint is located.

It usually takes about three light coats (with plenty of time to dry, in between applications) to get it back to new looking. Be careful not to get too close or spray to heavy---- the stuff will run on you and leave drip marks.

Hi Mike

Cool video! Love the way you showed us all three of those machines. I wondered how the SS worked on those machines. I have a 65 Kenmore with a "Suds" position marked on the dial. Will have to give it a try sometime. <:

This is very fun. I had music on but I will watch the video again so I can hear the narration. My favorite Maytag, I love Easy Spindriers, and I had never seen a direct drive suds saver working. I didn't even know they existed until a couple years ago when I knowlegeable member told me.

Wonderful vids and what an education, love the sudz return and that KA agi is "Way Past Shredmore"...lol

From another twinny nut across the pond, that Easy is a marvel, two speeds and didnt realise that they had a removable spinner, easy servicing indeed...the white Spiralator is very much like the Hotpoint UK TL...

Cheers, Mike

Love seeing your Model J, Whirlpool and I'm now in love with the Easy!! :-)

Great video - it wouldn't be conventional washing without a wash-stick! Loved that!

Do you know what kind of pump you have in the DD Whirlpool? Later revisions of this pump had a rubber flap to stop the pump from pulling in air while in agitation so the suds-saver trick might not work with those. I've shown people almost the same thing on Maytags without a siphon break, put the drain hose in a glass of water... Could be a good way to dispense bleach in a machine without a dispenser?

You could add a toggleswitch to the back of the Whirly that starts agitation for suds return - no searching for the sweet spot on the timer dial, but that's part of the fun too.

Thanks for the video - your laundry room looks like lots of splashy fun!

Mike, "Way past shredmore" that's pretty funny. We should get pictures of the Htpt & Easy spiralators together

Foral, glad to oblige.

Ben, so nice; bet you're beautiful too

Westy, Thank you, Man--do you ever miss your Easy?

Geoff geoff geoff, I planned to dedicate the Commander flic to you but I had gansky in my head because he wrote that wonderful story about his Gram's Maytag and her wash stick. Did you catch it? I knew you'd die over the Easy. There's nothing like it!

Easyspindry, we were probably separated at birth--can't wait to meet you too.

Spats, that was my goal: that you would find it awesome

Thank you, Gary, and I would love to see a flic of your Dexter because you have a good one.

Laundra, just go to youtube and type Crazy Wash Machine Tricks

Finally I get to share knowledge that I've had NO ONE to give it to all of my life with two of the most knowledgeable and gifted members in the club. What a Thanksgiving treat to show Robert something he doesn't already know, and to be able to tell Gansky something--ANYTHING-- he doesn't already know about washing machines. Here goes, fellows

Gregoryyyyy, the last three minute interval is simple to find on any of these KA/WP/KM machines; just move the dial one click past the 6 minute mark--piece of cake, but it's SLOW speed agitation and pump--ho hum zzzzz. The trick is to find the tiny interval in the last hair's breath between 6 and 3 where no filling will occur and the machine will agitate and pump at high speed. Are you with me, Brother Gansk. With practice, it becomes easy.

Robert, all those hundreds of videos that you have made--good God !-- and finally I get to show you just one. I love to wash a few things at a time at low water levels, Mike loads if Bob allows it. I wash every day and mostly love the water currents, pumping and draining. Finding out that you were unfamiliar with the hi-speed DD suds-return until I showed you made my heart leap up with joy. Thank you.

You should see the other secrets I have learned. I can't wait to amaze you and all of my bros & sisses in the club. And I'm so happy I can finally GIVE BACK and SHARE.

Wow! I have watched this clips many times. My Great Aunt had an Easy, but I never got to see it in action. She had three of them and swore they were planned to last only five years and 1 month, just beyond the trnasmission gaurantee. My grandmother and mom both had Maytag wringer washers until I was in high school.
You are a master of the machine. (It is amazing the things we can figure out to do with machines, when no one is watching!)

Great video, I have not watched one of these closely. Your choice of clothes helped, my Easy T/L has the black swirlator which really gets things moving. I always thought the aluminum version was the exact same size as the bakelite but no way from your video! It appears much bigger.

I'll have to watch GregM's machine more closely next time.
What do the two faucets do on the Easy, is one hot one cold??

Love hearing your upstate accent makes me feel I'm back home in Schenectady!

Hi Tlee and Jetster and Al

mickeyd's profile picture
tlee--so you KNOW the Easy and its joys. I just told Eugene I wish he had one because he has five loads and a busy day ahead; see his stain test thread. What happened to your machine?

Jetcone, have Al scroll to the current thread about the Easy in Chicago; there are close-ups of the faucets: the short one is for filling the washer AND conducting the needle spray rinse through the JETCONE--honest, this was the prototype; the long faucet--and it's so DAMN COOL--does two things as well: one, it drains either tub; two, it conducts the suds-return of the "washing liquors" from the spinner to the washer. Swinging those faucets around in a symphony at just the right second between cycles is a real ball.

The plate on the aluminum is smaller making the spiral fins look bigger. Will do comparison shots in the next roll of film.

I only use a few items so we can enjoy the water currents and study the many turn-over patterns. Glad my movie finally drew you in. How'bout a flick of the Blackstone for Christmas.

I DO NOT HAVE AN ACCENT --HO HO HO HO HO--YOU DO !! My best to you and Al

Upstate NY people have an interesting accent. It seems a hybrid of Boston and Midwest/ Chicago, but definitely not Brooklyn/Manhattan. Very flat a's but also short o's. We say Lon' Island, not Lawng Island, dental-flos, not dental flawass, caar, not coawr, for a car. There is a tendency for downstaters to make a word a mulitsyllable and for upstaters to truncate. When you get in the extreme north of the state, you might as well be in Maine or Canada, with the ayup, and the warsh to be done, and see ya Saterde mornin, and Whatchaupta?

The amazing story

mickeyd's profile picture
Yesterday, I found out about a warehouse in the city of Buffalo that is the last stop for most discarded machines. Waiting for a few friends and family who were coming by to help me prepare for the Christmas party, I decided, on pure whim and impulse to check the place out. Not seeing where to get in, since the drive-up area had docks with trucks locked onto their openings, I was walking around looking for the entrance. Suddenly two dudes appeared out of nowhere to find me holding a GE 16 ramp agi which I had brought along hoping to find an 18. They thought I had robbed it and was casing the place.

I told them I was a washer freak, disarming them with kindness, and they took me on a tour. I was in awe. Hundreds--HUNDREDS!-- of machines, mainly WP KM GE KA. But in the dimly lit lower level, along a row of coin-op GE's, there, there, (suspense) all alone, shining in chrome but with a completely crushed faucet on its drain hose, was a Kenmore Visamatic. I could not believe it. We wheeled it to a receptacle, powered it up. Bingo! Perfect: pump agitate wring 2 speed; It needs a control knob for the timer. They were closing and invited me back on Tuesday. I'll ask if I can take pictures. What a Christmas gift this was. They're going to spruce it up and decide on a price.

I was high all day from that encounter. When I told people they just laughed and asked why do you like washers so much, and I said I have no idea.

Merry Christmas from Buffalo to Syracuse

You're only six minutes away on Santa's sleigh, ya know!

I'm tempted to come to Buffalo, but would have to trade the car in for a truck, as I am sure I would not be able to just window shop at your find of abandoned washing machine stash. Visimatics are really pretty, and I think that it is truly a great story as to how you found it. Phil

Here's what's goin' on, unbelievable to me but m

mickeyd's profile picture
These hundreds of machines are warehoused for WHOLESALERS, yes wholesalers who buy up x number of washers, then repair and make them pretty.

The wholesalers then sell them to used appliance dealers who then sell them to us-- that's THREE levels of profit--stunning!

Some machines are taken down for parts, and the metal is sold as scrap, but nothing is wasted here, and there is no crusher, according to John whom I just spoke to. When i asked him why there were only WP's KM's GE's KA's, and Tags, and no Norges or Frigidaires, he said, "Aw, we got 'em. I'll show you everything tomorrow." I thought I had seen it all on Saturday; apparently, that was only half of it. YAY for secret stashes!

We're meeting tomorrow at 10:30. This is getting exciting!

At the warehouse today, this is a verbatim account:

John: Aw, there's this one kind that has this little jumper in it, goes up and down, little glass window in some.

Me (bug-eyed): John, that's a vintage Frigidaire. Where are they? Show me!

John: Well, let's look around on another floor. They don't stay around. This one guy had around seven of them in his basement. He says he has parties, people come over, drink beers, and bring their wash.

Me: THAT'S US THAT'S OUR CLUB WHO IS IT

John: I don't know his name. I think he lives in Pennsylvania.

That's all I shoud say right now till i contact the member, but there is enough stuff here for hundreds of people. There are over FIVE HUNDRED WASHING MACHINES HERE!!!!

Then later he showed me a stash of Vintage stoves which someone there obviously loves like I love washers. They were collected and organized and some of this stuff was pre-1950. Fridigaires and a Gibson, huge and rounded like an old Cadillac with tiny white push-buttons for each burner between 8 &10 buttons for each burner. This stove is insane, and I don't even like stoves!!

Where should I be telling this story so everyone interested can see it? Somebody rescue it.

He was happy to hear about us and very interested in having me post pictures so that "maybe we can start movin' some of this stuff outta here." Wait till you see.

I got a nearly mint LADY Kemore Visamatic. It's whisper quiet--you'll have to hear it to believe it!-- down there now washing the tablecloths from Xmas dinner. It's pure white and the control panel is gleaming chrome just like the wringer. It is so beautiful and satisfying and so long awaited. I am so very grateful.

Hi kid, Some people have all of the luck! Good for you. Any Dexter's, ABC's or Easy spinners there? Here I am in Illinois and you with 500 washing machines at your disposal. Congrats on the Visa matic. Gary

Alas, Buddy, not so far

Most of the machines are later models. Ironically enough, John was looking yesterday for what he called "a huge
Whirlpool Wringer, and checking out your profile today, I saw that it is one of your dream machines. If he finds it, it's yours. I'll hold it. I got the Visamatic for 40 bucks. I have a half dozen really good friends in the Chicago area whom I went to school with. How far are you from there?
