I had a NIB version of that from the 30's or 40's called the Oven-ola. I sold it for a song last fall during my cleanout downsizing. The box on mine was much more colorful. I can't remember the name of the maker but they probably sold it to Stanley or WB later.

Can't speak for range/stove top version, by my electric Ovenette works a treat. Just the thing to for baking or roasting during warmer times of year, saves heating place up using main oven.

And of course, toaster ovens came along and filled the bill nicely, too.

IIRC these sort of "Oventtes" were popular to take along camping and or at "the cabin", wherever the latter happened to be.

It's worth remembering how bad housing shortage and situation was not just before, but for long time post WWII. Cold water flats were easily found before the war just as afterwards, and people considered themselves grateful.

Then of course there were rooming houses, SRO hotels, and other places which were pretty much just renting a room.

In many instances a hot plate, "Ovenette" and or similar contraptions were what was on offer for such living.

There were also various sizes of electric roasters made by Nesco, Westinghouse and others. These could function as primary or secondary ovens as well.

And in the days before air conditioning, things like these and roaster ovens and the Nesco 4 and 6 quart casseroles could be used outside on a screened porch or the like to keep cooking heat out of the house.

Nesco on the porch

On really hot days, I use our large Nesco roaster on the front porch with different items in each container.

It's a great way to keep the heat down in the house on our lovely 99 degree days.
