Hi. My KDS-18 is suddenly not filling at all. If there's any water it's extremely minimal. I can hear the motor going fine, so I'm assuming a problem with the fill valve. I have the service manual, but the images are so poor I can't derive much from them in terms of test points or even where the filter screen is located or how to check the filter screen for the fill vale. Any hints appreciated! Thanks very much.

I hate to admit this. But in frustration just now I sort of lightly kicked the front panel several times in the area where the fill valve resides on the right. Yeah, it's apparently working again, at least for now.

The float might have been stuck

Did you check it.

I had previously checked the blue float at the front left -- it just pulled up and out easily and didn't seem to have any effect (at least at the time I pulled it apart). Of course, if there was a problem internally my kicks (even though not in that area) might have had an effect on it! Thanks!

Well, after more tests, I see this is still not working correctly. Up to now, I only tried 3 or 4 rinse holds and there was water for them (after my "kick" fix). I tried a normal mode load just now. The initial rinse got water, the 2nd rinse got some water I think (but not much), and rinse/wash got no water after that. And now rinse hold doesn't get water either. As for the float -- all I've ever done with it is make sure the blue part is free to move. When I pull it up, all I see is a little plastic thin pipe that lifts out along with the blue top -- it all lifts freely up and out of the base of the washer. Is there something else I should be checking on the float that might account for this behavior? Or elsewhere? Thanks!

You probably have a bad inlet valve, it probably has a bad coil on it that heats up and goes open.

The way to test for sure is to attach a test light to the two wires going to the inlet valve if the light is on in the machine is not filling you do have a bad valve for sure

Thanks. What kind of voltage is on the valve? Are replacements even available?

All electrical parts of this DW operate on 120 volts except the the detergent dispenser bi-metals, they operate in series with the main motor.

The valve you're looking for is a 4171000. It's a single valve design instead of the dual valve design Hobart originally used in your machine. It works the same. You only use one set of wires on the new valve, tape off the other wires with electrical tape.

Here's one on Ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/304557408141QUE...

Here's a cheaper one if you want to gamble with an open box. https://www.ebay.com/itm/304557408138QUE...
