After figuring out it was more than I wanted to do to fix it I decided I would get rid of it to someone that appreciated it because it was still in beautiful shape. I saw a posting on Craigslist wanting old Maytag wringers. I responded and contacted the person that placed the ad. He said he was doing it for his neighbor and they would be in the area Saturday. He showed up with his neighbor and 2 strapping sons all dressed in Amish attire. He knew exactly how to fix it, put a gasoline engine on it and gift it to someone in their community that needed a washer. He tried to pay me and I refused saying I was glad it would go to a good home and not be junked.
