That could be a

video-shop job. It doesn't appear to be built into the wall, as the salmon colored angled wall to the right is not flush with it. It would be a good secret door though.

They did something like that in the movie "Breaking away

Some young guys found a 50 refrigerator underwater in a quarry and one of them went inside it.  The other guys dived in after him thinking he was trapped but the back was not there and he swam out.  About the most interesting part in an incredibly boring movie, Boring Away.

Breaking Away boring?

I watched this movie on TV many years ago while trying my first sweet red vermouth, not surprisingly the movie got better and better with each glass refill of vermouth, by the end I was really into both!

Breaking Away is a lovely movie.† Debut of Daniel Stern.† Early in the careers of Dennis Christopher, Dennis Quaid, Jackie Earle Haley, Robin Douglass, Hart Bochner.† Featuring lovely Barbara Barrie, who also played Mrs. Stoller in the short-lived TV series.
