My 36 year old Maytag A712 has finally died... It no longer agitates, and I think the shaft has seized and I don't have the energy to rebuild the Pittman transmission.. so its going to the curb for trash pickup....Other than the transmission (I think), almost everything else has been replaced, the motor, the pump, the timer, the belts.. the water valve..

there is very little rust on it.... so its free to anyone who wants to haul it away.

its located in Arlington, MA....

Its possible to harvest parts from it as well but not sure if shipping makes it economical feasible.(especially the heavy or bulky items like the motor or the tub/chassis.. LMK if there is any interest...

Sigh... it lasted more than I would have every expected...not sure the new Maytag washers are built to the same standards..

At least pull the console with all of the wiring intact. You can make some decent cash on it.

Agitator alone

Could fetch $40-50 on ebay.

Don't be in such a hurry to scrap it.

A good damper dome is worth at least $50.

My ignorance could be showing here but...

Couldn't this washer be saved by swapping transmissions, rather than rebuilding the original one? Would have to be an orbital trans probably as the Pitmans are really hard to find now, but I think both types can go in a Newton machine. Someone like qsd-dan would know much more about this than I do.

Thanks for all the suggestions, but I'm just trying to give this washer/parts a good home to those that may need it as I know that parts are hard to come by and usually the only way to get them is to harvest them from another unit.

I wasn't thinking of making any money on it....

just trying to give this washer/parts a good home

Throw it on Craigslist for $50 or so. Someone in your area may be interested.

Don't list it for free or put it to the curb, scrappers will grab it for sure and it will end up as recycled beer cans.

Yeh!! Come on down

Mark, you got it...LMK when its mutually convenient for both of us to have it picked up... Unfortunately, I was concerned no one would want it so I harvest some parts last night...but it still all there for you to take away..

BTW it is a A712 with a Pitman transmission (flywheel)

I sent you an email asking what times are good for you this morning...

Arlington?? Winchester?? I'm in Lexington!

Hi Folks!

Didn't know there were so many people close by. I have a few spare parts for the 712, so let me know if you need any for the rebuild. It's a very sweet machine. The last of the "good old" Maytags.

Sounds like a future wash-in is in order.
