So I came across an item I couldn’t resist, a never-used Kitchenaid Superba dishwasher. It puzzles me how someone could drop some serious coin on a machine like this and never hook it up and use it! I checked the serial number and it was manufactured September, 1990 in the Kentucky plant. The interior is still glossy and sample of Jet-Dry, warranty card, and energy rating materials are still inside. This thing is showroom new! I just recently replaced my dishwasher and so wish I had this one installed instead of the new Kitchenaid I have now. I will keep this one stored safely until the day comes to install it. Beautiful machine!

Just randomly decided to browse and noticed this machine. The people I bought it from had also bought it with the intention of installing once they’d remodeled their kitchen but then decided to go without. So I don’t know the circumstances behind why it has gone unused all these years. Nonetheless, it’s the real deal!

Some people buy new houses and never use the built in dishwasher and I mean never. They firmly believe that they do not wash dishes as well as doing them by hand We had a neighbor like that. It's a good chance of surviving if'n when they leave.

Id swap out and sell the newer model for a few hundred. It wont last near as long as your great find anyway - may as well sell it while it still works!

Selling the newer model

I’m not opposed to the idea but this new one cost me about $1600!!! Otherwise it’d already be out in the garage and the KUDS22 installed!

$1600 For KitchenAid?

neptunebob's profile picture
I thought that was getting up into Miele price territory.

Their top of the line model is what I got from a local appliance warehouse and $1600 is the going rate for this model. Kinda crazy I know.

I have a step down model to the new KA and of the 6 DWs I've owned it is the best performing one I've ever owned. Of those 6 one earlier one was a KA similar to the OP's find.  It  worked well but the new KA out performs anything I've had.  Maybe the OP can find a spot and install a second DW.  I've got an old WP installed down the basement  for odds and ends and for canning.

Enjoy both KAs.

I did the same, I found a Kitchenaid KDS18 and matching Trash compactor . I got them both for free and the new the stickers were in the dishwasher and the trash compactor was never used.

They were installed in a Mother-in-laws sweet in Stone Henge  Million plus homes when they remodeled in 1978  . They were tested once when installed but never used.

I kept the 225pound  Trash compactor best one I have ever used other than Viking which is my Kitchenaid copy by them. I sold the dishwasher to a guy in here he live in New York.  I should have kept the dishwasher now that I look back on it but oh well he sure did love it so its all good.

Thats why I love going to Estate sells my Sisters Subdivision has her community wide yard sale next Sat and I always go those Well off people let things go cheap . I got two Antique end tables last year for 20 bucks each.  They were both made in 1869 in Bridgeport ..

New KUDS 22

Great score John hopefully you can find a place to use it, however I would keep that new KitchenAid you have that’s a really good dishwasher.

While these high-end KitchenAid‘s get into Mieles price range it’s really a much better dishwasher it holds more it’s actually repairable and it will actually dry the dishes.

Miele is a very good dishwasher to be sure but they’re just not repairable in this country for the amount of money most people want to spend on repairs.

As suggested maybe you can find a place to install a second dishwasher and keep this KitchenAid around for parties etc.

John

Thanks for the feedback, John. I had a Kenmore Elite dishwasher I installed when I bought my house. The motor died in just under six years. I was going to replace the motor myself but they were back-ordered for an unforeseen amount of time. I decided to splurge and went to a local high-end appliance warehouse and got the 804 model. It has been a really good machine so far once I learned how to load it. The third rack is very smart.

This KUDS22 I almost passed on because I just don’t know what to do with it yet. I have my KDS60 portable that I still run on occasion and I love that machine. I figured “just get this one because if I don’t I’ll never see another new one like it again.” Someone will want a new dishwasher at some point and maybe I’ll sell the new model KA to them and finally install this “new” one in my home. It’s just a beautiful machine.

These are a couple of pics of the Kenmore Elite model I replaced. It seemed like a decent machine while it worked.

Kuds22

If you decide to see the kuds22, let me know. They just rip through a cycle super quick. I’d routinely use quick glass when baking, it’s a super short cycle with just awash and rinse. It’s great for measuring cups and the mixer bowl. I have a Miele now but it’s SLOW.

Pulled the newer KA dishwasher and installed the NOS Superba today. Beautiful machine and it looks fantastic in my kitchen. She fired right up with absolutely no problems. So nice to be washing with one of these classics again!

I have this exact same dishwasher in our garage. It’s the backup / second dishwasher for parties. I really love it. Congratulations!
