So, here’s a random question for the Kenmore-heads in the AW family.

I grew up with a suds-saving 1960 Kenmore Model 80. When in suds-saving mode, you’d hear the clunk of the valve changing positions at the beginning of the wash-water drain. The water spun from the clothes during the first 2 minutes of the spin was sent to the suds-holding tub. Then you’d hear the clunk of the valve changing position and the four spray rinses would commence, the water from which would go down the drainpipe hose.

Lately, I’ve noticed that in Kenmores washers from around that time without suds-savers, the spray rinses occur in the first two minutes of the first spin.

Did the suds-saving models spray rinse at a different time in the first spin than their non suds-saving counterparts?

My ‘64 Kenmore is a suds-saver model. The solenoid is activated only during the neutral drain following the wash cycle. This is true for both “Normal” and “Delicate” cycles. The solenoid is deactivated as soon as the spin starts. Spray rinses are during the first 2 minutes of the spin cycles.

I’ve probably said it before but it bears repeating. That’s a nice washer Jon.

A very nice looking Kenmore. I've always loved the late 50's and early 60's models with their multi-colored cycles on the timers.

It’s a fantastic machine! Smoothest spin I’ve ever witnessed.

Whirlpool/Kenmore sure had a lot of different spray rinse combinations. I've seen anywhere from 0 to 7 and everything in between.
