From what I gather it`s mainly Alcohol Ethoxylates (a nonionic surfactant) commonly found in rinse aid and DW detergents that have the potential to destroy the protective layer in gut.

"A defect in this barrier is associated with conditions such as food allergies, gastritis, diabetes, obesity, cirrhosis of the liver, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, autism spectrum disorders, chronic depression and Alzheimer's disease."

Using All in One tablets I already have the rinse aid dispenser turned down to a very low setting but now I think I will more often rinse out at least glasses and cups before I use them, which is kind of piontless of course as long as you still consume the stuff from plates or whatever else.
Is vinegar an option? I heard it can destroy gaskets of the rinse aid dispenser.

Is rinse aid poisonous

I have always been suspicious of putting something on the surface of my dishes that says keep out of reach of children, and do not ingest.

For this reason I have never used rinse aid. Well I have tried it, but I haven’t used it in 30 years.

It just doesn’t seem to be necessary. Everything comes out, sparkling and shining and dry even on air dry in my old whirlpool dishwashers.

This study is only focusing on one aspect or point of entry where dishwasher detergent and rinse aids can enter the human body and cause damage. There are others.

"These epithelial barrier–damaging agents include toxic substances present in laundry and household detergents, as well as surfactants, enzymes, and emulsifiers in processed food, cigarette smoke, particulate matter, diesel exhaust, ozone, nanoparticles, microplastics, and toothpaste.5,8,9 Increased intestinal barrier permeability allows greater subepithelial exposure of the innate and acquired immune system to proinflammatory components and microbiota in the intestinal lumen.10 These inflammatory stimuli and proinflammatory cytokines can directly suppress TJ protein expression in the intestinal barrier.11 Bacterial translocation to subepithelial area accompanies this damage as demonstrated in many systemic diseases.12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 Our recent studies have demonstrated that exposure to anionic surfactants in laundry detergents impairs the epithelial barrier functions in human skin and bronchial epithelial cells even at very high dilutions.20,21 In addition, laundry detergent residue after rinsing has toxic and disruptive effects on the TJ barrier integrity of bronchial epithelial cells.20

Homo sapiens apparently is not compatible with those substances and products ... but it's prit'much impossible to avoid them in the modern world so good luck to all!

You’re more likely to be killed by a California driver texting the links to the articles while driving solo in the carpool lane and sucking back a Starbucks with the other hand.

I was behind three drivers on their phones today. One did not make a perfectly legal right on red and I could see the phone in her hand, but a right on red is optional where allowed so I did nothing. When she finally got a green light her car practically limped wound the corner; she might not have been able to turn the steering wheel easily while maintaining holds on both the wheel and her phone. Another took off so slowly once the light changed that it was obvious their having to drive was interfering with their use of their phone which was being held up at steering wheel level as was the woman driving 15 mph on neighborhood streets These drivers hold up the cars behind them, especially when they do not make a left hand turn when they can/once the arrow comes on and when they drive so slowly that cars behind them cannot clear the intersection. Something is going to have to be done about this use of phones in moving cars by drivers who cannot exercise good judgement/obey the traffic laws.

Tom, I surprised that its legal to drive in your state while using a cell phone. Its been illegal in California for several years now.

No one should be talking on a cell phone that they are holding in their hand while driving. Some people have holders that they can mount their phones in and talk on them that way. Also many cars are equipped with bluetooth technology that allows drivers to receive and send cellphone calls over the sound system.

The fine is pretty high if a driver is caught driving while holding a cellphone, and it should be. With the heavy traffic on the streets and roads now drivers need to be paying attention to the task at hand, DRIVING the car!

Harmful to humans chemicals in the environment

combo52's profile picture
There are all kinds of things that we are using in the world, both natural and man-made that are harmful to humans.

I have always been suspicious of wetting agent in Dishwashers, and it’s probably a lot more dangerous when you’re actually applying the chemicals directly to dishware that will obviously come right off on the food beverages, etc. that you’re consuming.

Having these chemicals in laundry is probably less of a risk I don’t really try to ingest my clothing very often.

As far as driving with cell phones, it is very illegal here and in the District of Columbia there probably needs to be better enforcement.

I totally agree Eddie nobody should be holding a phone in their hand while driving although amazingly, it is still legal in Virginia to carry on a cell phone conversation with the phone in your hand while you’re driving .

John.

I agree that better enforcement is called for, but I have only seen one person pulled over for driving with a phone and he was going 30 on the Beltway at night when a cop pulled up behind him. It is very illegal to do what these drivers were doing. That does not stop them. Their time is worth more than any else's.

WHAT????

I've never had any issues with rinse aid, even at the max level. What are they talking about? I don't understand.

I knew something was up.
My parents were using Finish dw soap in 2017 and I tried using generic soap from Dollartree.

The cheap stuff left spots.
The Finish practically performed miracles in terms of the final outcome.

Apparently they are literally putting car wax in there or something.
