I finally got a chance to test the Maytag “DE806” dryer I am putting together the other day. Everything works in terms of it heats up, cycling thermostat cycles the heat on and off, timer advances/counts down and turns off. Here’s where the problems arise, 1. Turns on when the timer is moved from the off position despite a start relay wired in, 2. Continues to run with the door open which might indicate a bad door switch and will have to look into that sometime. Kind of stumped though, I wired everything up correctly and checked a few times to be sure but am still a little thrown off on why it turns on when the timer is moved from the off position, the Maytag DE306 I picked up in 2018 didn’t do that and had to push the dial in to start. Did I goof on the wiring or do I have a bad start relay? Just double checking with the Maytag experts or anyone who has experience with the Maytag DE306 HOH dryers.

Is this a DE806 or DE30s? There is no timer dial on an 806; no timer to advance. The way to interrupt the cycle on the 806 is to open the door. |

It’s a customized Maytag dryer I am putting together. Has a 306 timer in place of the electronic control selector.

Hi Sean, you would have to show us a diagram of what you did. There’s no start relay on any Maytag dryer so that sounds like something was modified.
The start contact in the timer you’re using could certainly be stuck that would happen. Sometimes it’s a simple test with an ohmmeter. Post a picture of your wiring diagram and we can probably point out the problem. It’s a pretty simple dryer. John |

Hi John, didn’t some of the later Maytag HOH dryers towards the end of HOH production in 1974/1975 have a start relay on them? The Maytag DE306 I picked up back in 2018 had a start relay on it from what I can remember. I’ll have to look into the timer itself and the start relay.
Btw, is the one customer who has the Maytag DE808 still plan on getting rid of it or not? Still looking for a Maytag 808 console but the 806 console I have will work for the meantime. |
