We have a KDI-18 that is leaking from around the motor underneath. We rent and the owner "doesn't like dishwashers" so only used it when she had guests! Needless to say there's likely no one around who will we willing to fix it. But it cleans amazing and we want to save it.

It started about a week after what we heard what turned out to be a cherry pit rattling around and my husband took the machine apart from the bottom spray arm to the drain impeller to remove it. There may have been a slow leak for a while that soaked into the very old porous particle board subfloor before it started running out from under the machine so we could notice it.

After finding a service manual and this amazing forum, and taking the machine apart again, I discovered that some of the washers were not put back in the correct places when it was put back together. Also, the O-ring that fits on top of the drain impeller is missing. It looks like I can get a drain impeller with the O-ring on eBay, but it doesn't come with the gauges. I have 4 shim washers that were originally used (but I can't be sure one or more isn't missing because of the missing O-ring and reassembly error). I also don't know for sure which 2 were used in which location. I've attached a photo that shows the 4 shim washers on the right. The two that have a smaller outer diameter are the same thickness. One of the two that have the slightly larger outer diameter is slightly thicker. When I get the new O ring, what can I use to get the correct clearances instead of the gauges? Is there a way to figure out if which ones were the shim washers in the position labeled 20-23 in the attached diagram, or the ones labeled 9-11 in the attached diagram, from the difference in the outer diameter? My feeling is the ones that have the larger outer diameter fit better in the 20-23 spot but I can't be sure that is where they really go.

Also, in another possible place where the water seems like it could be coming through, the gasket in the groove on top of the motor mounting plate (I think that is the name? I've put a photo of the part) was removed and put back in. I removed it again and put it back in making sure there were no twists and that it is firmly in the groove.

Any guidance is greatly appreciated! I've already learned so much from this forum and if this machine ever breaks down again I'll be much better prepared! It's a gem.

update to leak

I replaced the O-ring and now the leak is much less. But it is still leaking. The leak starts a bit later in the cycle. I'm wondering if it is the gasket around the motor mounting plate now? Can this be replaced? Or any tips for getting it really firmly reseated?

Update, leak fixed

I replaced with the full impeller kit and now it isn't leaking!
