Is the little black O ring on the agitator shaft? There should be a catch as you push the gyrator down over it or try to lift it up to remove it. |

1 - You need to replace stop agitor ring on Maytag wringer. Part is easily enough found on eBay or otherwise online. Replacing is a simple and straight forward affair.
www.davesrepair.com/Parts... 2 - Most modern repairmen are loathe to do a call out unless they're going to charge a fee. Diagnosing via telephone, email or text often isn't best option, but it's free. This of course means you have to find a repair person familiar and competent with your older Whirlpool washing machine. 3 - Maytag wringer washers can handle sheets and other flatwork along with bedding such as blankets quite easily. Long as one respects the wringer and learns how to property feed things though rest is a snap. When doing towels, sheets, pillow slips, blankets, etc.. anything that is "long" you want to have them flat as possible going into wringer. That is not bunched up and twisted as they come out of wash tub. This is where people get "afraid" of wringer (and rightfully so), but things can be done safely. Personally one prefers to stop agitator before fetching items out of tub. Then unfold or untangle first part going to put into wringer and feed. As item goes into wringer unfold and untangle much as possible so things are flat. Maytag specifically states in owners manual that things are not to go through wringer bunched up. Maytag wringer washers have self leveling power rollers. The mangle will "damp dry" things if they are fed properly. Not dry as when spun in a washing machine but better than wringing by hand. |
