Hi guys, girls,

I was looking at kitchen pictures on Pinterest, and I came across the following picture. Is that a dishwasher? or is it a trash compactor?

Looks too wide for a trash compactor, and bottom panel looks pretty high for a dishwasher. And the kitchen sink is across on the other side....a little confused.

Just curious.

Thanks,

Compactor. There's nthing wrong with the compactor being across from the kitchen sink. That's a pretty narrow kitchen. Look at the 40" stove and the little bit of cabinetry and that's it. Maybe a total of 4 feet (48 inches)

Thank you. I was confused if it would have been a dishwasher installed across the kitchen sink. That's why I thought that maybe it was a compactor, not a dishwasher.
But at first glance, it looks like a dishwasher.

Thanks again.

You are welcome. I've seen that compactor before, but I cannot place what brand it is. The range is a Frigidaire, but I do not think that's the brand of the compactor.

These were built by Amana, they are pretty rare, We have one just like this one at the Museum in Harvest Gold that is sitting in my office that I use the compact plastic bags.

These and the ISE compactors were pretty rare, we do have an ISE in the collection, I am still looking for an Alliance compactor, these were built by Alliance manufacturing in Alliance Ohio, The people who also built antenna rotors, garage door openers and lots of small motors for all kinds of appliances.

Whirlpool invented home compactors and started selling them in 1969, there were at least 9 other companies who also introduced compactors and sold them over the next 1/2 dozen years and I think that only WP is left selling this very useful appliance.

With recycling we often go as long as 1 year without having to empty ours.
