Hi all! I have my mom's old Kenmore gas dryer model # 110.87573110. It has never had an issue until this past week. I used it this past Wednesday to dry a couple loads in the morning and no issue. I dried a load that evening and when it went to light it was making almost a chugging noise. I removed the bottom and watched it. The ignitor clicked and came on but the gas seems to be coming out in spurts. It reminds me of a blow torch running out of fuel. I ran it again today and seemed to be a little better. It is drying the clothes fine and doesn't appear to be leaking gas. I don't know much about how it works to be honest and it's been reliable. Any ideas as to the problem would be appreciated. I can take a video and send it to someone if they want to see it in action. Thanks!

That's pretty close to what it's doing. Sometimes the flame sputters more than that

Sounds like a clogged or dirty burner orifice.

You’ll have to remove the burner orifice (possibly the entire burner assembly) and clean it with a pipe cleaner but since your right arm is in a cast, I wouldn’t worry much about it. As long as it’s not effecting the functionality to dry clothes, wouldn’t worry much about it.

Your welcome! Someone like John may be able to do more of a diagnosis since he’s been in the appliance repair industry for quite some time though he might be busy since I haven’t seen him as active on the site in the past week or so.

THE ORIFICE......

Can be cleaned by Boiling water with Cream of Tartar. Once it has reached boiling point, turn the heat off and let the orifice soak in the solution. This usually breaks down corrosion/calcification that builds up over time. Good Luck. Hope
the Arm heals quickly.

Best Washes,

Louis
