I’ll take this one Todd if I’m able to arrange shipping.

Well I’ve put the cart before the horse and the building isn’t there yet but hopefully in the next couple of years it will be. I have most of the machines I want to fill it with.

I've never seen that before

What's the function of that plastic thing opposite the dispensers?

That's the rare model just below the LK that I helped my mom pick out in 1975.  Big selling point was the Quiet Pak transmission, as the laundry room opened onto the den/TV room, and this new Kenmore would be replacing the despicable and ear-splitting '67 Snorge from Hell.  The Kenmore served her for 25 years (could have been longer but that's another story that's sad and irritating) and in that time only needed a belt (the original green ones were notorious for failure) and a new and improved filter (ditto on the original ones).

Todd, this is a very special and tempting, feature-rich machine that is likely the only one that could ever replace my A712, but as long as it has potentially found a good home, that's what really matters.

Plastic Thing

Ken, that's another dispenser for powdered detergent.  When selecting the automatic soak & wash cycle, after the soak and pre-wash the machine would continue into the regular wash and the spring loaded bottom flap on the dispenser would open and allow the detergent to drop into the tub when fill was done and agitation began.  You could also use it for just a regular wash, but you had to set the timer dial for the full 14-minute wash time in order to trigger the detergent dispenser.

The detergent dispenser works on all cycles. Please email me toddmetcalf46@yahoo.com if interested. More washers will be up for grabs very soon.

Yes, you have to set it for thee longest wash time for each of the 3 main cycles--Normal, Delicate, and Perm Press.

Thanks guys for clarifying.  I had forgotten that the detergent dispenser works on all three wash cycle options, but I guess that's because I can't see any need to bother with it other than with the soak & wash selection.  It just gets in/knocked out of the way when unloading the machine.

Update

I gave her a little exercise today. Runs great and one of the quietest Kenmores I’ve heard running.

I probably should’ve made a new thread as she is no longer available and has found her retirement home.

Quiet Pak treatment at work, including the rubber-bushing motor pulley.

Thank you for the update! I sure do miss that machine and yes, extremely quiet. Never could find the matching dryer and never saw another model with the same console. Nice to see you using the detergent dispenser!

In all of the years I’ve worked on appliances I had one of these washers probably about 25 years ago and I parted it out because it needed too much work. I’ve never seen a matching dryer in person and only found 1 picture of one in the archives. I’ve wanted one of these for a long time and I’m sorry that Todd had to give up his collection but I’m very thankful that he was so generous in giving the club the opportunity to save them. Todd I can’t thank you enough and I can only imagine that you may be searching for some oldies on the big island. I couldn’t put this machine away today without this picture.

My aunt and uncle had the matching dryer from 1974 to 1995. One of the most awesome dryers I remember from childhood.

It's possible that Kenny just posted one to match this in the Shoppers Square frum.

Thanks very much for the heads up on the dryer. I do like the one posted but it’s not the exact match. Here’s the picture posted of the 1975 model for scrap and a picture of the matching 1974 model that Lawrence posted on 9-11-16.

Picture one is 1975 model
Picture two is 1974 model
