I a KDI-18 and it was leaking a lot around the motor after my husband took it apart and put it back together to remove a cherry pit that got down to the motor mounting plate. I got the Whirlpool impellor kit off of ebay and replaced the O-ring, which was very brittle. I didn't replace the impeller because I didn't get the gauge shims with this kit and the replacement impeller seems just slightly thicker. The leak is less but not gone.

Now it no longer leaks when the washer first starts filling. And you can let the water sit in the tank and it still won't leak. But it does leak when something turns on that circulates the water around the dishwasher (not sure what this part is, but maybe it's the impeller)? Then water sprays out around the motor underneath.

I didn't get the gauge shims with the kit. Any tips on how to make sure the clearances are right now without these? Or if I had a replacement I could try replacing the impeller too and see if that helps.

The gasket on the motor mounting plate got removed in this process. I have attempted to re-seat it, but I'm wondering if there is an issue with that that could be causing the leak? It seems nice and flexible still, unlike the o-ring was.

This is a fantastic machine and I'm guessing any appliance service is just going to want to replace it because they won't know what to do.

Update, leak fixed

I replaced all the parts that came in the kit (impeller and lower seal) and now it works! the original shims worked even though I didn't figure out how to check the clearances.
