Thanks to a slight nudge from John L., I was coaxed into saving these machines. These are my first coppertone appliances. An elderly lady purchased these in June of 1965 and they remained in the same home until today. She passed away a few months ago so her granddaughter is struggling with parting ways eith the contents of her home. These held high sentimental value and she is so happy to know they will be restored and preserved.

The motor hums but no action. Agitator has a very sluggish feeling so I believe gear oil is gummed up and the belt snapped. Beautifully cared for set and will be fun to have these working again! She held onto the original receipts and booklets for now but I feel confident I’ll convince her to pass those over to me as well.

Wow Jon these are in beautiful condition, I probably have a little plastic part that’s missing on the dryer. It says soft heat if you need one.

Can’t wait to see these running, may have to come out and visit sometime over niece that lives in Portland.

John.

Good save!
Perhaps you could convince the relatives to allow you to copy/scan the paperwork. This way you at least have some information regarding the lineage.
Best of luck with the restoration!
Chris

Thanks!

John L: the panel backlit areas are actually glass. The pieces are there but at some point it was broken. I noticed a crack had formed on the water level glass panel as well. But if you have it then I’d be so happy to get it! You are welcome to visit and stay anytime!

Jon, these look great!  Saving beauties such as these is often rewarding, but when you know exactly where they came from and what they meant to the previous owner - priceless.

Congratulations!

Awesome score Jon! These are great machines.

My friend had this set in his kitchen; his mom would sometimes let me watch her load it and see it operate. She never used the W-n-W cycle; she thought it wasn't working correctly because of the partial drain. I guess she didn't understand how it was supposed to operate (I was too young at the time to know how it worked).

I love the "FILTER" light! Enjoy using them!

When do locals get to visit Jon!? 🤪 Sounds like you’re building quite the collection! I passed on a 50s kenmore 110 dryer in nice working shape this weekend at an estate sale off 205. It was a bit small and plain considering that I don’t have the space to really collect more than one set sadly. It was still plugged in and worked.

I’m going to keep looking for something snazzier. Do you fix these for others by chance? I’m fairly handy but I’d feel safer knowing there was someone knowledgeable to possibly do repairs if needed. My willingness to tackle more projects will partly depend on how my repairs on a 58 frigidaire dishwasher turn out. Still new to appliances.

Locals always welcome!

I’ve only fixed up machines for my neighbors once when they wanted older Maytags again. I was happy to do it for them. Always open to having a little workshop of sorts and fixing a machine together
