Hey guys, I wanted to ask what stuff should I check over with my Thor automagic? I haven’t seen the machine in person yet but it has been delivered to my mom’s house, I’ve probably would like a complete rundown on anything and everything I should and would check, I am going to check the balance ring that sits underneath the wash tub to make sure that seems OK when I get back to Canberra

Hi Adam,

On all the Automagic’s i’ve owned i always check the boot first, as if this is knackered i could bust the whole machine.
Lift out the tub, balancer, this will expose the drive shaft and below this you will see the boot which connects to the centre post and inside tub base.
Hope it’s in good condition :)
Cheers
Keith

Thank you Keith

I’ll have a check of the boots when I get home and considering that my machine appears to be the kind that was produced sometime in between 1946 and 1952 at least that’s according to the different adverts that I’ve seen on eBay I think it might be perished, but that’s just a guess

Thank you, but they sure are complicated as well

Plus I think this is actually a British made model as well so it makes me wonder if there are actually any major differences

Adam, congratulations. Ross Roberts had one of these at his two Arizona wash-ins in 2006 & 2007. It was a very fun machine to watch.

RON Thank you for the emails, I have received and read them

It makes me wonder if there is really any differences in the machine design due to the fact these come from different regions

Hi Adam, great to see the Thor, pic 13 shows the tub seal bellow has started to disintegrate, hardly surprising given age etc, this is what you will need to fashion or find a suitable replacement , we ended up using a Hoover New wave model pump hose , similarly a large front drive rubber gait boot from a car / tractor / lorry may be useful.

Very similar machines & mechanisms, its just the switch controls that tend to be different, yours has the control wheel , ours has the lever and others the foot pedals.

Look forward to seeing your progress.

This pic shows the boot we fashioned to fit the mechanism tub and outer tub.

This is the drive boot we made from an old Hoover Automatic sump hose, a plastic yogurt pot, some glue & plastic ties. Anything is possible ha ha ..

Oh wow, thank you so much I’m not exactly sure where

To even start with the failing boot, that’s something that I definitely need a hand with, but generally the rest of it I can probably do myself
