 I think I know that very sound.
Just an occasional - m~e~o~W-W-W (Will someone come and pet me please) type sound/squeal.
They never got it fixed. I replaced that dw with a new tol KA in 1997 for them.

Funny noise, GE dishwasher
A lot of GE dishwashers with the multi orbit plastic arm did this in the 80s, in 1993 we help convert an 80 unit apartment building to condos that had a 1982 GEGSD 1200 dishwashers in it.
Even though they were 10 years old, we fixed every one of them and had to guarantee them for another year when the condos were sold, many people complained of the noise, there really wasn’t much you could do other than replace all the washarm parts. These were actually fairly effective dishwashers and really the first dishwashers GE ever built. It actually cleaned pretty well other than the limitation of only having a pop-up tower for the upper rack and not cleaning well on the corners of the upper rack if you had large things in the lower rack, they were pretty good dishwashers , Do you have the new improved motor or the old shaded pole power hog in this one? The old motor also made it share of noises because the speed of it would vary and it always sounded to me like it was straining, the new, permanent, split capacitor Motors eliminate that problem. The 2800 was one of my favorite machine, got many years of use out of it. Finally got rid of it when everything came out with tiny black spots, I'd guess it was seals slowly degenerating. | ||

80s GE top of the line potscrubber Dishwashers
Hi Mark, hopefully that Teflon seal will stop the noise, I always replaced the washarm bushings and usually got the noise to stop on those machines.
Black spots on dishes, this problem reflected many dishwashers as they aged, the black, rubber boot, and other hoses would start to deteriorate From the highly chlorinated and phosphate of detergents of the time. Whirlpool has some trouble with this. Also, this is why they switch from black neoprene rubber to the sort of yellowish colored rubber that they use later. The problem could be corrected by replacing most of the rubber parts of the machine. Curious Mark to see if this will stop the noise your dishwasher was making keep us posted. John | ||

BTW, I have NEVER seen another Amana like this model. I was told long ago it was made by GE. Not sure if that’s true or not. But never have I had luck researching this model it seems it was extremely rare. CLICK HERE TO GO TO maytaga806's LINK | ||

The new part I ordered has arrived. Should I try to remove the seal from this new part and then simply place it on top of the original seal?
Regarding the noise, it kind of sounds sad, as though the machine is crying LOL.

Mark that's all you need to do. Just install the new seal on top of the existing. Keep it simple is best. BTW it would be good to apply a small amount rinse aid or liquid soap on the plastic threads of the geared nut to make reassembly easy. -LP | ||

Thanks, Leslie The repair took all of two minutes! I placed the new seal on top of the existing one and then reinstalled the spray arm.
I have now run about 5 cycles and am delighted to report that the dishwasher has stopped wailing!
