I didn’t think about taking pictures of the process of replacing the upper bearing and seal kit on this washer until after I had it all back together. I have a 1999 model that needs the same repairs so maybe I’ll remember to do a detailed thread on that one if anyone is interested. These washers were largely thrown out due to repair folk telling the customer that the transmission was locked up when it was only the upper bearing that was the problem due to the seal leaking water on top of it.
Don’t get me wrong for either repair the machine requires complete disassembly but I have always liked these washers despite their seal failures. This one is an upper end model LWA60AL in almond built in 1997. The upper bearing had started roaring in the spin cycle. I got this washer around 2004 and don’t remember what was wrong with it at the time but it must’ve been a simple repair. I know I put a used motor on it several years ago and replaced the belt at that time. Today I tore it all down and replaced the original upper bearing, seal kit, and went ahead and replaced the belt again while it was all torn down. In my opinion these were great washers with a 710 rpm spin and great wash action. It runs nice and smooth and quiet again ready for many more years of service. |
