The Maytag featured in today’s picture of the day appears to be from either 1956 or 1957, not sure if it’s the older style of AMP design since the out of balance switch is built into the lid along with the water level selector. Didn’t both the AMP and helical use this setup around this time? Remember reading something in the archives on how Maytag’s automatics changed quite a bit from 1956 to 1959 and at one time the AMP was available in that particular cabinet style for a brief time but can’t confirm. Though I am a bit of a Maytag expert, not familiar with the 1956 and 1957 Maytag washers other than the Highlander machines from about 1957/1958 that used the helical design and were timed fill.
