glow plug is fine

I hear a click so i think the gas valve is opening

but there is no roar of the burner lighting

so now I have to diagnose it

amd I thought I was set

Non-heating Maytag gas dryer

Hearing the sound of one gas valve opening is a good sign that means power is getting to the gas burner assembly.

Do you see the igniter come on?

If so, does the igniter cycle off in about a minute?

If you see the igniter come on and cycle off that means you have a bad gas valve solenoid. The secondary valve coil is bad

Unfortunately these are hard to get now they are technically no longer available but you can probably find them out there somewhere. White Rodgers change to a more repairable valve assembly in 1984. Most times we run into these earlier me tags and whirlpool‘s. That have bad valves or bad valve coils. We just put the newer style valve assembly in the machine.

It always amazes me how much trouble we had with Maytag gas dryer‘s and GE’s for that matter, even though they use the same white Rodgers gas valve, assemblies that whirlpool and Kenmore did .

John.

it semi works to the extent

let see if I can prose this

the igniter comes on nice and strong

there is a loud click and a WHOOSH and the gas ignites

it heats

I need to time how long it heats

it clicks and the gas valve closes

need to time how long it is off

the igniter comes on nice and strong again

loud click but no whoosh no gas

igniter goes off immediately

need to time this but I think seconds maybe then the ignoter comes on but goes back out

hope i got the info straight

The seller of this machine provided a warranty on a 43-46 year old dryer?

Nice!

bpetersxx's profile picture
I think there may be a refurbishment warranty

john was 1000% right

both coils were bad

but it still did not work

new radiant sensor did not fix it

so the valve itself is bad

dryer is out until can get a valve for it

Older Maytag dryers with this control system ran around 10 minutes, never long enough to actually dry anything with air but it made a nice additional cool down or you could fluff up some things that have been sitting in the dryer.

How long is it running on air?

Is it turning off reliably at some point?

John

Does the chime sound when the clothes are dry? If so, the electronic control unit and wiring should be good.

The main reasons for this from most common to leas common are...

Broken linkage from actuator to the tab on the switch.

Broken tab.

Tab on the switch is very loose and sloppy (requires a new switch).

Cool down thermostat contacts are welded shut (should have no continuity through the 2 terminals when the dryer is cold).

On regular permanent press and damp dry it shuts off when it is supposed to

Chime does not work because part of it is broken

but air dry continues to run on and on

I'll sit and watch it I usually do anyway because i am fascinated of the gas system

I watch the gas flame thru the access door

still finding out what does what in the heating cycle

Going to tinker with it more

now to find out about the Calypso washer in the other post I made

It's only the "Air Fluff" selection that does not shut off properly, all other selections function as they should?
