What must have been a year after the new, full size machines have launched, Miele launched the new OctoPlus touchscreen machines in both 100l and 80l drum sizes.

They have also launched the new matching dryers in both gas and electric.
So far, unfourtunatly, no heatpump versions - new slimline heatpump dryers have been launched though.

That means the entire professional lineup has been renewed now onto the W1/PerformancePlus platform or the G7000 DW platform.
So, until the W1 gets replaced, there probably won't be any major new professional launches.

Dryer speeds

So, there are very few full size heatpump dryers on the US market.

The longest running is Whirlpools HybridCare ventless fullsize, but that appears to be rather slow for US standards.
The LG WashTower has a dual inverter heatpump version - which should make it rather quick if needed, but I have yet to see a review about it.

So, even though these machines aren't comparable to home dryers whatsoever, I think the current Miele Professional heatpump lineup gives a good case as to why even full size US dryers should be abled to be fully heatpump AND very fast - today.

There are 4 heat pump units available in the lineup.

The first is the Little Giant heat pump system - loosely based on the W1.
That uses seperate process air fan motors and drum motors, a 1ish kW heat pump unit and can dry about 18lbs spun at 1000rpm in less than 90min.

The second is the slim line heatpump set. That is the least efficent, with a 2.5kW heatpump it can dry a simmilar load spun at 1400rpm in 60min.

The third are the 2 "professional full size" heatpumps. Those can basically half that dry time again - but are BEASTS that weigh several hundred pounds ALONE.

I was hoping for an OctoPlus heatpump unit.
The OctoPlus is 700mm wide - basically 27", but only barely deeper. The drum is "only" 6.3cuft or so.
However, if you fit a slightly beefed up LiGi heatpump in there, you could get pretty close to what a realistic, full size heat pump dryer COULD do performance wise.
