It's nearly bol. I'm surprised it came in any other color than white.

Early 70s basic GE dishwasher

This dishwasher did not even come with panels. The panels were optional so of course you could put any color you wanted on it, you could even get a custom trim kit and put wood on this dishwasher, etc.

Seems a fancy front for the machine behind it which I must admit does look almost unused. I often wondered if a screen could be put over that round opening to serve as a filter.

Looks more like "Brushed Chrome"

bajaespuma's profile picture

That basic design of  GE FL dishwasher was around for many years; some of the iterations were MOL's and different panels, including Stainless Steel and Brushed Chrome were available. This one has/had a Rinse Agent Dispenser; looks like they misplaced the cap. This feature was offered on higher-end machines.

Sadly, none of these were great performers but builders used them a lot and for many homes they were significantly better than no dishwasher at all.

Rust Puff

I call these rust puffs, they all would rust through after a decade of daily use. I remember apartments and condos in the 2000s that had these installed in the 70s had nearly all been replaced with porcelain or permatuff years earlier. I saw very few of these in the maintenance scrap pile, and the few that were they were typically there due to leaks and drips.

@bajaespuma: A pull out fine filter in the sump would have made all the difference.

A pull out fine mesh filter in the sump

Would’ve made GE dishwashers the most hated machine ever sold, you would have to clean it every single load even stop it in the middle and clean it. People would’ve quickly decided they had to completely wash their dishes with such a horrible system, which is why it was never done.

See my other comments under to rinse or not rinse
