You may be able to get a replacement door gasket if necessary, sometimes you can lucky and find parts for these older machines or make something else work. I would assume this is a porcelain tank reverse rack...if so you can also adjust the door latch so it closes tighter | ||

i don't know how to tell if it's porcelain. also don't know what reverse rack is. found a door seal on e bay for $55. if the door seal is hard like the repairman said would it start gushing from the top like a waterfall all at once instead of gradually? | ||

A reverse rack Maytag is glass, cups, and simillar go in the bottom rack an plates and similar go in the top rack along with the flatware basket.
