Came across this listing on marketplace. I have no idea who put the upper auger upside down but it’s pretty hilarious. This was sold at a used dealer, where they don’t look twice at their inventory upon receiving them and then selling them. Last time I saw a Kenmore DD with half a watermelon smashed over the top of the agitator. The cluelessness, lol. Figured others will get a good laugh out of this too.

Wow. What's sad is someone is going to purchase that, expecting it to work. This is exactly why I researched how to fix these things myself. Many used appliance retailers claim these machines are "reconditioned" which means squat, or new dogs lol.

I don't understand why you say it is upside down. What am I not seeing? My KA auger turns clockwise; shouldn't this?

Tom, the ridges are (should be) on the bottom of the auger ramp, not facing upwards.  It's a bit difficult to see in the photo, the entire ramp is oriented upside-down.

Thank you Glenn. My KA auger does not have any ridges and can only be installed one way. You are right, I cannot see them on this one. I guess the thrashing small fins are not destructive enough, so they had to put ridges on the ramp or maybe the ridges are to help move the load during the low speed agitation portion of the wash portion of the cycle. How is the ramp removed from the barrel of the agitator or is it just reversible? This is much later technology than mine (and your KA, too). Thank you again. I will go back and study this some more.

I learned last summer that the folks who work these used appliance places hardly ever mean what they say when they use terms like reconditioned or refurbished. It honestly doesn't surprise me that the machine is in this weird condition. Most of those sellers are nothing more than appliance flippers who have no idea how to do even the basic repairs on these machines.

My DD machine came to me with a completely broken neutral drain assembly (as in, it slipped into spin literally every time) and a dying clutch. I ran it that way for a few months until the clutch issue got to be too much to deal with (clothes were very wet at the end of cycle), at which time I got both issues dealt with. I also had the coupler replaced as I was told it looked like the original, which was a big clue to me that the machine had never been thoroughly looked over.

A proper underside view of such an auger, captured from a WP brochure circa 2003.  The agitator is touted as Extra Roll Action™ Plus although it's not clear what aspects are involved in the designation.  I have two models in the brochure that have the auger.  GSX9885J (Catalyst) and GSQ9669L (Gold series).
