In preparation for our kitchen remodel (washer and dryer being moved to our detached garage), I got a new Miele pair. It’s arriving today so I’ll post pics once it’s in place.

I didn’t want AutoDos so opted for the WXD160. Reading the manual, the heat pump dryer technology is very nice. It will be interesting to see what happens to our gas bill. (We have solar so that was another attractive thing about the heat pump dryer).

Installed… first observations

I got them installed today. Super happy so far. Here are some of my initial observations:

1. Capacity on both seems to be good. Stated capacity on the washer is 8 kg (17.6 lbs). I’ve weighed out a few of my normal size loads for the LG and none have come close to that.

2. No options for pre-wash or rinse only. However, there is a cycle called Proof which is at 40C and is only a single fill / wash for use with waterproofing products. I think
I’ll try that if there is something I need a pre wash or a rinse only. (I used Rinse / Spin for this on my LG as I preferred it over the Prewash option because I got a full spin after the initial fill / rinse.).

3. I enabled the max rinse level in the settings and it gives a very nice rinse fill level. (Pic marked with the red line.). Super happy with this relative to my LG.

4. Heat pump dryer is surprisingly speedy and often finishes before the washer. I have the condensate going into the grey water drain for the yard.

5. Super quiet relative to the LGs.

6. App is very nice and lets me do more than the LG app.

7. I’m glad I did not get AutoDos. I prefer adding my own products. I may try CapDos for some select products just to try it out but don’t think I’ll be a regular user.

8. I’m running the washer on a 75C cycle and have the dryer running as well and still generating power (making excess) on my solar which is great.

9. Not impressed with FragranceDos. I’ll see how it plays out in the long term. They did include a voucher for another box so I’ll try a different scent.

If you’d like to know anything else, please let me know.

Bob

Wow, Great Choice!

I've heard those heat pump dryers are awesome energy savers.

I’ve run a few loads and love this set!!

1. Super quiet

2. Got the heat pump drain line connected to the gray water drain. Super convenient.

3. FragranceDos is growing on me.

4. BrightWhite cycle is brilliant. STPP and Tide with Bleach on this cycle had incredible results.

5. App is great. I wish there was a way to know # of rinses it did per cycle. (Just for my own interest.)

cotton profiles

What are the profiles on the cottons cycle on both the washer and dryer?

Miele WXD160

Hi Labboy congrats on the purchase!

Am considering this set for myself but hoping you can share some more observations? Currently we have a SQ AWN432 set but at times we could use a front loader for comforters, pet beds, etc.

1 - which cycles have the highest water level?
2 - does the app allow you to add more water to any cycle?
3 - can the internal heater be used on most cycles?
4 - how is the capacity compared to a Speed Queen set?
5 - how is the drying time compared to a conventional dryer?
6 - on average how long are the cycles for both the washer and dryer?

Hope you don’t mind answering all these questions :)

The rinse level line .. I'm jealous of that!
These look great. I'm sure they cost a pretty penny but they are worth it and hopefully you will have no issues.

@ Decodriveboy

1 - which cycles have the highest water level? Handwash, delicates, dress shirts and Outdoor. Page 38 of the manual has a nice chart describing the wash and rinse water levels and cycle defaults.

2 - does the app allow you to add more water to any cycle? No. The app only allows for remote start. You can choose the Max Rinse Level option in settings. (That’s an on or off setting which affects all cycles.).

3 - can the internal heater be used on most cycles? Yes. It works quite well also. It comes on for anything besides cold.

4 - how is the capacity compared to a Speed Queen set? I’m not familiar with the SQ capacity. The max capacity is 17.6 lbs (8 kg) of dry laundry. I’ve weighed a few loads id consider “normal” for my LG front loader and have not even gotten close to capacity.

5 - how is the drying time compared to a conventional dryer? I’m coming from an LG gas dryer and have found the times are similar. I have been pretty amazed at how efficient the dryer is.

6 - on average how long are the cycles for both the washer and dryer? Washer 60-90 minutes. Sanitary cycle about 2:20. Pretty similar to my LG set.
