Hi ya'll. Looking for a vintage stackable washer dryer set. I'm in Eastern Tennessee area, but would travel quite a way for a good unit. Also, might be interested in conventional classic W&D set too. Prefer a full size set so I don't have to do laundry as often. ;-) Thanks!

PS>> If you know of any really cool classic stackable models, let me know about them so I can start searching and learning more about them. I mostly like 60s-70s models.

Stackable as in can be taken apart or stacked as in permanently? There is a difference.

Stackable in any sense. I do prefer a full capacity set, so I'm guessing the most likely scenario (due to weight) would be two separate units that are modular and stacked on top of each other (especially for older units, which were built heavier). But also integrated units that are not normally separable (unless unbolted for movement, which is fine too). Basically, I'd like to understand all options based on what was available in the past for vintage units. And when I find the best candidate, then I can start searching for it.

The only one I can speak of knowledgeably  is my mother's Maytag stacked setup from 1994.  LSG7804AAL with a gas dryer on top.  It's still going strong at 29 years old.

Thanks for the replies. Yes Laundrette I have seen those models. Was hoping for a more vintage model from the 60s or 70's or maybe early 80s. I see a ton of the first type you linked for sale. Most of them are the slimline models, but some are 27" wide which I suppose is mid load capacity. The other one with two stackable units appear larger, and maybe I could go with one of those. But again, I was hoping for a vintage stackable washer/dryer set. Seems like they are rare and not easy to find or even identify so far.

The only stacked FULL SIZE machines from the 60s I can think of were Westinghouse. And good luck trying to find these.

In the 70s there were more options introduced but most were compact or mid size.

RE: reply #6

Those were replaced in 1964 by the redesigned WH washer and dryer, much improved and with larger capacities. Most of these washers had a rather limited life of 5 years, more or less. If you are seeking daily drivers, just buy something current. They will come with a warranty and a service organization..

Thank you everyone for the great info. Looks like the vintage stackable idea is a bust. One idea I'm considering is to buy a conventional vintage washer/dryer set and then do my own DIY stackable setup. I have metal working skills and can fabricate a basic steel framework necessary to stack a drier on top of the washer. Then I would have to relocate the controls for the drier (and perhaps the washer depending) to be at the bottom front of the unit instead of on rear top. But this could rather easily be achieved by extending the wires as necessary. It would be a project, but for me perhaps worth doing. If I decide to go for it, I will post my results. Thanks again to everyone.

Or you could just get this

Build a shelf in a closet above the full size washer of your dreams and put this on the shelf.
GE has the controls already at the bottom.
