We got this set of Maytags a free years back from some ditzy lady in Seattle who couldn't understand why we would want them, and couldn't understand why the dryer had no filter. We got them for free, and she even helped us load them on the truck.

We put them in our vacation home where they have had light duty. At first the washer leaked (hence the leak pan) but recently that seems to have ended. Large loads, small loads, hot or cold, it seems to have cleared up.

Any idea what's going on?

It’s a Maytag miracle. Jesse White made a visit.

It "Depends"

After all, they are DEPENDable Maytags :).  Beautiful set and I love the full-width console light.

Ignoring leaks is going to cause a catastrophe later down the road. Remove the front panel and see where the leak is coming from.

Take off the front panel and have a look around.

Yep, my A408 came from an old lady who ignored a small leak for years and years. Don't let a nice A806 suffer the same fate!

What I'm saying is that the leaks have stopped. I wonder if it could be that the hoses and connectors were dry because it hadn't been used for a long time, and the now semi-frequent use has made them more flexible and less likely to leak. I'd love to have it get a tune-up, but it's out in a rural area of Washington and the only repair service is sixty miles away. They make house calls, but I'm afraid they'd just tell me that it needs replaced because it's too old.

More than likely the tub seal stopped leaking. They have a tendency to shrink after sitting for a long time (had that happen to my Maytag A606 before), usually a hot water wash will soften the seal up and if that doesn’t work, a few pots of boiling water will usually fix it.
