The local (Oakville, Ontario) seller has listed this as a "Spanish" washer, but I'm pretty sure it's Brazilian (Portuguese).

Certainly the only one I've ever seen this close to home. Might be fun to have, but I bet it weighs a ton!

That washer was a terrible disaster.

I think even Whirlpool regrets putting that thing on the market

why so bad? I know Brazil doesn't typically use dryers...and was it locally produced or sourced from where?

It was bad because:
1) it was made in china
2) it had serious issues with the bearings (they lasted a few months and probably 100% of the units sold had to have the bearings replaced at least twice during the 1-year warranty.
3) the PCB was probably sourced by the worst electronic manufacturer that ever existed in China.
4) the drying was HORRIBLE, worse than any other washer-dryer combo that has a condensing dryer. (Average 6 hours to dry a 3kg load).
5) the tilted drum + super dumb distribution/sensing made it either abort spins or spin absurdly OOB, making the washer jump like crazy.

This darn think lasted slightly over 1 year on the market. A green bird told me that executives at Whirlpool Brazil cry in the shower just like that infamous cable tv commercial everytime they remember they decided to put that thing on the market. It was Whirlpool's worst fiasco since the Brastemp Clean Self-heating that was nicknamed Self-fire or Ford Pinto.

In time: it distributes, then the drum stops for 1 second, then it starts spinning. What could be more stupid?

Oh, i forgot to mention.....

In a country that LG and Samsung were debuting their washer-dryers that had DD inverter motors that were super silent and caused a huge revolution on the marked and helped popularizing dryers in Brazil, brastemp released this model in a hurry naming the motor as "B-Drive" (Brastemp Drive), which supposedly was superior to LG's Direct drive motor (that Brastemp compared to a ceiling fan in their tv commercial).

The super high tech, state-of-the-art motor was nothing more, nothing less than a freaking noisy brushed motor that made the washer absurdly loud like a jet engine.
