Maytag DE306, appears to be from 1966 or 1967.

Hmm, looks like the put a timer in since they didn’t feel like dealing with the pesky electronic dry control. Did the same thing to my Maytag DG606 4 years ago.

A bit hard to read, but is that a "BK" serial number?
If so, that cabinet is in *exceptionally* good shape for being from 1966!

It's Mine - and I Hate to Sell it

Long story on this one. I bought a A906/DE906 pair from another collector a couple of weeks ago. The dryer's cabinet was a bit beat up for such a rare machine. However, I had a DE806 in a mint white cabinet that I thought would make a good donor. The only time a 806 can be a donor is when a 906 is in the room, right?

I had also just picked up a free avocado DE606 with a mint cabinet a few weeks earlier. I converted it to a DE306 because its electronic control was on the fritz. I tried for weeks to sell the converted DE306 but apparently nobody wants avocado around here.

So I decided to make the DE806 into an avocado machine so I could use its cabinet on the 906.

So what you see there is a Frankentag machine comprised of a DE906 cabinet, a DE606 shell, and a DE306 control panel. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any DE306 tags, so I put a spare 606 tag on it. I know it doesn't show in the ad, but I did quite a bit of paint touch up on the front and side panels.

Hope that makes sense and nobody thinks that what I did was sacrilegious...

Not at all. I saved a DE808 that seriously abused inside and out. It's now a conglomeration of 3 different SOH dryers, one from the late 70's and the other 2 from the 80's. It looks and runs like a million bucks now but still a fully functional DE808.

Photos of DE906 and "KDE806"

maranoman's profile picture

Thanks @goatfarmer and @qds-dan for your support on my decision to swap cabinets. I'm all for keeping a machine original, but when I can improve its looks without spending time, effort and money to paint entire cabinets and touch up porcelain chips, it just makes sense.

Below are the final outcomes of the other two machines: the DE906 (with a DE806 cabinet) and the KDE806 with a KDE606 cabinet.

Next up is the A906 which will need a new front panel at a minimum (due to misplaced appliance cart damage in its past - see last photo.)

Sorry about the low quality of the photos - they were high quality when I uploaded them to the post but the website is changing them for some reason.

New front panel will be a piece of cake to find. You can use any white front panel from 1966-1993.

Excellent Jeff, not just for the awesome detailing on the machines, but for the ad you placed. If more people were that thorough on sites like FB Marketplace older appliances might have more of a chance to go to more people (other than just collectors) as a usable daily driver instead of eventually being junked when their low effort listing doesn't spark interest.

So many ads are just one blurry picture and 10 words of text at best.

I would like to swap my Maytag combo cabinets for Harvest Gold one day, in a similar vein of keeping it original instead of painting.
