Hi everyone! Hope the day finds you well. I was recently contacted by a customer with a bad clutch on his 1988 kenmore Direct Drive washer. He wants to service a few other things while the machine is dismantled, including changing the gear oil in the transmission. Is there a particular oil that I should purchase? I’ve heard of using 60 weight racing oil as a substitute for the OEM whirlpool oil. Will this foam up and cause issues, or will it be okay?
Thanks,
Thatwasherguy.

90wt gear oil is typically advised.

However, Whirlpool service manuals (L-46 and L-55) I have state SAE 60 non-detergent, non-foaming, 13 to 16 oz.
