With attached microwave?!? The upper oven panels are easily cleaned in the lower oven.

Can anyone guess the age and model # of the GE DW?

Very late 1970s to very early 1980s. This wasn't the actual BOL model because this was an "upgraded" control panel with a push to start timer dial.

There's a 1976 & 1980 GE dishwasher brochure in Ephemera that has this style control panel or a very early version in 1976.

Meh (an era of lousy GE DW's)

A Builders' machine; better than nothing, but that isn't saying much. And it's not because of the much-maligned-Plasticsol coated tank, more the clown-shoe wash arm and the infernal noise.

The fridge and range are worth saving. The dishwasher will be of more use in a recycled state of a soup can.

Had that dishwasher along with what would be the matching stove and fridge all GE in almond…

P-7 self cleaning with timed bake, no window on oven door, at least one 8” burner, top freezer with no defrosting needed, no ice maker and a small 1/4 shelf for housing the two ice trays I’d seldom fill and use and dishwashing that no matter what I put in always came out clean!

We had the GE Potscrubber version of this dishwasher. It was bought in the Fall of 1976 as a portable and then built in about 2 years later. That dishwasher could scrub the most burned on lasagna or broiler pan spotlessly clean. We never pre-rinsed anything. My mom had all avocado appliances, The stove was Roper Charmette double oven and the refrigerator was a Frigidaire Gemini 2000.

1970s GE dishwashers

Certainly better with that redesign lower arm than their first washarm Dishwashers it came out around 1964. Those were the most miserable things ever.

The 70s were the beginning of GE dishwashers improving their basic model in 1973 was rated right below the KDS17 KitchenAid Superba.

The first GE dishwasher that really was serious competition were the early 80s models with the filter in the multi orbit wash arm.

The worst thing about the early 80s Dishwashers was the port durability motor and pump assembly that made so much noise it would take another decade or so for them to put a decent motor on that unit, but they still had the crappy drain valve system. They did finally start making models that used an electric drain pump and they were much more durable rid of all the leaks and destroyed floors.

Thanks Appnut! I love these old machines.

Its amazing how GE kept a similar design concept going all the way until the end in 2022. Heat dry on/off; normal/short wash dial and a Hot Start option since the mid 2000s.

I fantasize about a Power Clean version like that.
