I have always thought that this was the most beautiful GE control panel ever.

Which panel are you referring to? I came to this post late.

I am sorry. I posted it late after I got home from services. It is the 1959 GE pair with all of the colors. A neighbor had the washer in pink.

One of my favorites as well

I was lucky enough to buy both the decapitated washer and the dryer panels off of eBay.

A portion on the rim of the control dial on the Washer was melted. I deduced that this was probably the reason that GE discontinued their beautiful illuminated control dials after 1961: if a user, such as me, was prone to interrupting a cycle to, say, create their own soak period, the little light bulb was hot enough to melt the plastic if it stayed in one position too long. That length of time must have been pretty long because those pauses in the dryers' Automatic cycles didn't seem to do any damage.
