I am currently in the process of upgrading my single-speed Maytag A512 Washer. I've already installed a dual-speed motor, purchased a LA-712 control panel, and separately acquired a LA-712 wiring harness. This project has been moving quickly and smoothly so far; it's an easy machine to work on. However, I'm having difficulty understanding the wiring harness and need assistance in getting this washing machine up and running. If possible, could someone please share a picture of the backside of a LA-712 to help me in properly wiring it? We're currently without a working washing machine, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Specifically, I need to know the following:

Which color wires are meant for the lid lock?
Where should the orange wire from the motor be connected?
How should I connect the orange and black wires from the water valve?
Also what are the differences between the LA-716 and the A-716?

The first photo I uploaded is a homemade wiring diagram I put together entirely through guesswork, the others are actual photographs of the machine. The "lid lock override switch" you see installed is for a future upgrade.

I picked this machine up last year, rescuing it from the dump, I guess it was being "upgraded" by a new machine. It had been used in an efficiency apartment that remained largely unoccupied over the years, and his is how the washer appeared when it was sold to me for $50. I was thrilled to get it.

In the images of the rear side of the control panel, you can see that I currently have the 2-07366 and 2-07367 switches installed. However, I plan to replace them with the correct2-06218 and 2-06219 switches.

Here are more pictures. They show the entire back side of the new LA-712 control panel, the older A512 control panel, and the back side of the LA-712 timer.

Answers to your Questions

(1) Which color wires are meant for the lid lock?

On one end of my lid switch there is a Yellow wire marked "SW" that originates from the timer terminal marked "SW". On the other end of the lid switch is a Yellow/Black wire that comes from the water level switch.

(2) Where should the orange wire from the motor be connected?

It goes to terminal 31 on the the motor control switch on the console.

(3) How should I connect the orange and black wires from the water valve?

The orange/black wire from the hot water valve solenoid goes to the terminal marked 6 on the water temperature selection switch on the console.

(4) What are the differences between the LA-716 and the A-716?

The LA712 is the almond colored cabinet. The A712 indicates the white color cabinet. They use the same wiring schematic.

Maranoman, your assistance is greatly appreciated. You went the extra mile by removing the timer to capture the back of the timer photos. The ladder diagram proves especially valuable in understanding the electricity flow. Thank You

Requesting a moderator's assistance in deleting both the colorful wiring diagrams I posted and this post. In the diagram the two solid yellow wires are switched causing a direct short when the wash cycle starts.
