The tub in my Neptune washer (manufactured in NOV '99) has stopped turning. Today, after setting the machine to wash, I left it to "do its business", only to return to find a washer filled with soap/water (the knob did not advance past the original wash setting and the machine was had turned itself off). I moved the knob to spin and pressed start, after which the machine drained the water, but then turned itself off (without moving into spin mode). (FWIW...this behavior is recent, the difference being that it would usually complete the cycle, AFTER a restart. Not today.) So... I removed the rear panel and engaged the start again, the drain pump energized once more, but the tub motor did not fire, and after a brief period shut itself off, again. It seems to me that the tub should be moving once the spin cycle has been selected and started, please correct me if I do not remember this correctly. Is it reasonable to assume that after 23 years of service the motor has expired? Are these still available and if so, where? Or... is this the course of things to come for my "daily driver?" I hate to get rid of it (this is what the "repair guy" said to do when I queried him about the tub bearings). As my father sold dem "center dial TAGS", I was proud to bring the Neptune back online after I replaced the bearings myself.

I purchased this machine used about 15 years ago, and... after replacing the wax motor; installing a tub boot drain; and replacing both front/rear tub bearings, have enjoyed the use of this machine and would like to continue to do so, if possible.

Any comments, assistance, guidance, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

very repariable i'd say

not much to go wrong with the motor, but the motor control could need repair or replacement...Neptune experts should chime in soon :) I have a 3000 from 1998 :)

There are many things that could be wrong, one of the most likely, however, is the motor board, it could also be the main control board problems with the door, lock assembly, etc.

Maytag revise the motor and motor board so you have to match the two together it’s more likely the motor Ford is bad than the motor but you might have to change both depending on what you can find.

There’s a check out chart inside the control panel that tells you how to decide what is wrong you need to go through the checkout before replacing parts.
