Assuming the voltage is correct at the wall receptacle it’s more than likely a door safety switch(WP3406107) or an open thermal fuse(WP3392519).

John, the dryer isn't working at all.

Melvin, John, or Glenn, how to access to be able to replace the door safety switch too. Thannk you.

I ordered not only the PTS for the control panel and the door safety switch. Both arrive on Wednesday and the potential person to do the mechanical repairs will most likely be Thursday or Friday. Thank you.

Accessing the door safety switch:

Remove the lint screen and the 2 screws that it hides. The top can now be pried up by releasing the 2 clips in the front holding the top panel down. There are 2 screws securing the switch to the frame on the inside of the door opening.

Careful to not drop a screw down the filter chute.

Hi Bob, which part was defective, it’s always helpful for people to know what went wrong to help other people fix their machine if they have a similar problem.

John.

John, I'm not sure which part was defectiveyes? I had both the pitch to start switch and the door safety switch replaced at the same time.

Had to have been the door switch. I replace a lot of these. It’s been many years since I can ever remember replacing a start switch on a top filter whirlpool built dryer. So glad you were able to get it fixed and that your friend is happy.

Yes, likely a bad door switch

I don’t recall ever seeing a bad start switch in decades on a whirlpool dryer, but the irony is our parts distributor sells a ton of them, because when dryers don’t start, people start blaming the start switch, lol
