I e-mailed the webmaster and accordingly he posted this in the members only section. I am unfamiliar with the site and can't seem to find the posting or figure out how I would have been notified if someone was interested, so posting it here. Here is what I sent the webmaster:

We have what I believe to be a late 60's portable Kenmore washer. I appreciate old things enough to realize that it shouldn't be discarded without at least an effort at finding a home for it.

This was owned by someone in my wife's family. It was stored by her parents until we got a house together in 2000, and we did successfully use it for a short time at that point. Since then it's been stored in a dry unfinished basement. I am not sure what it would need now to function, but it "ran when parked" and hasn't been stored in poor conditions since then.

We're located in Remsen, NY, roughly in the center of the state.

It has the lever on the back that raises the machine slightly on wheels so that it could have been rolled back and forth between a storage place and a sink connection on "laundry day". Most of what you see on it is dog hair, lint and some kind of greasy substance that I think was on it when we got it. No, it has not been cleaned up, this is the no BS, honest representation of what it is. I honestly do not have time to clean this or make it look better but I think that it would probably take minimal effort for someone interested in restoration. Some of the grime looks like rust but isn't. There are a couple tiny spots that are actually rust, especially underneath.

We're not looking to get rich off of anything but would like to negotiate a fair price if possible... we realize that's not any significant amount of money. Worst case I'd like to just get this to someone who'd appreciate it instead of throw it out. I have too many projects and not enough interest for this.

That is a great 1967 model portable kenmore washer. Thanks so much for going through the trouble to post it for someone who would truly appreciate it for what it is. If it wasn’t so far from me I certainly would take you up on your offer and I certainly hope someone does.

Thanks for taking a look, wish you were closer. It is helpful to know that this is worth finding a home for though!

I've been looking for one like this for a while...although you are "only" 3 hours away (I'm just over the Buffalo border) I am now of an age where lifting and hauling has become troublesome...

Good Luck, I am sure that someone can rescue this for you! Thank you for taking the time to list it here!

Guy

@bellalaundry, thanks for taking the time to respond! If someone else isn't interested maybe I could work out bringing it closer but would depend on a lot of stuff going on here.

@thedrycleaner, I tried sending you e-mail, maybe the second one went through to your profile e-mail address?

Just updating, unfortunately @thedrycleaner won't be able to take the washer, so it is still available.

Final update, the washer was sold to a member who contacted me. My apologies, he was NOT @thedrycleaner, he contacted me through the e-mail address in my profile, I believe he's "DJ" on here. I don't want to put his real name here for privacy reasons of course. Great guy, smooth transaction and I'm sure he'll enjoy and take great care of the machine.

I bought this sears Kenmore portable washer a couple months back. It hadn't been used in years but I guess it was stored in a warm dry cellar. Upon getting the washer I gave it a try. It went through the washing cycle good but when it came time to rinse the dial would not advance.I played around for a while with it so i'm guessing it needs a timer nothing I tried made it work. The next thing it began doing was the water inlet valve was not closing so water was continuous running into the machine. Now the clencher. I think the transmission locked up and none of the pulleys will move.I even gave the motor a few tries and I think it's burnt out because all is does in hum.I added oil to the transmission and that didn't seem to make a difference. I know there's a lot wrong with the machine but I really think with time it could be fixed. I'm up for doing it but I have no place where I can take it a part and to be able to take pieces out and let them set while I work on things. Its a really cool piece and i'd love to see someone fixer her up. I'm not asking anything for the machine i'm happy to let it go to a good home. I hope someone out there can rescue it. I'm going to leave the posting up for a few weeks and if i don't get any responses i'll have to scrap it. I don't want to but I can't have something setting there as a conversation piece. Again it's the room issue. Anyone interested let me know. Thanks Dj
