Freezer capacity looks limited with the shallow, low front baskets.

Wonder how old this is. Looks like produced by Amana and was typical design.

I would say this fridge dates back to 1985-1990.  I see exterior similarities to our '85 Whirlpool, but the interior treatments look newer.  Apparently the ice maker doesn't work, so that should be taken into consideration by anyone who might be interested in bidding on this fridge.

Whirlpool built, bottom freezer refrigerator

These were all whirlpool designed and built, had nothing to do with Amana.

I don’t see an icemaker in this model it’s optional, this also has a very generous almost 7 1/2 ft.³ freezer. It holds much more than the newer ones where everything has to go into a rolling basket.

These were very good refrigerators it was probably made about 1990 through 94.

Hi John,

I saw the ice trays and it made me wonder why a high end make like KA wouldn't have an ice maker.  Then I saw what looked like the on/off bar for the ice maker control resting on the cookies.  What is it really?  It looks too flimsy to be a shelf of any kind.

KitchenAid bottom freezer refrigerator

Hi Ralph, this model did not come with an icemaker, but was equipped to take an optional one. My guess is that only half such refrigerators had an icemaker added to it.

Even though this had the KitchenAid name on it, it wasn’t particularly any more expensive than the whirlpool version less than $100, and really high-end homes often have a separate ice machine anyway.

We take the icemakers out of a lot of nice refrigerators all the time because people don’t need them, I probably take four or five icemakers out every month on service calls where people don’t want them to never hook them up don’t need them.

John

Hey, I have this fridge!

Bought it used two years ago from a Maytag store.
Mine is a little noisy because the exchange fan needs replaced but man. One of the best fridges I’ve had! To help the question about the ice maker. It is a little wire rack that holds 2 ice cube trays and you put the cubes into the tray you see. There is a hook up for water and an ice maker but that didn’t come with either of these fridges. Hope that helps!
