For sale in my area and I'm curious what year it is and if it's the old helical transmission or an orbital? |

Maytag A212 (from what I can tell on the data plate). Has the Helical transmission since it has the Powerfin agitator with the lint filter on it. Also is the deep/large capacity tub as well.
Here’s a video of the effectiveness of the lint filter on the Powerfin agitator that qsd-dan uploaded sometime in 2016. Filters out pet hair and lint fairly effectively. CLICK HERE TO GO TO Maytag85's LINK |

All Newton built Maytags were helical drive from the fifties until the end in 2006. There was a pitman and an orbital transmission and I assume you’re asking if this one has the older pitman style. It should unless it was replaced with an orbital or it’s a Frankenstein from a used appliance shop. This one was built in March 1988. The orbitals started being installed in the summer of 1989.
