I think it could have either been a hot or warm spray rinse depending on what temperature was selected. Not sure if that’s correct since I’ve never dealt or owned one of these machines before, mainly am familiar with Maytag and Whirlpool.

Ask the man who owns one...

My guess is has something to do with dispensing chlorine bleach in rinse cycle.

Never under estimate American's love affair with chlorine bleach...

Sanitize (rinse) can't do a hot fill, choice of warm or cold per the temp settings.  Purpose is to sanitize the machine on instances of family member illness.  IIRC per the GM 1-18 era, user is directed to choose a lower fill level and add chlorine bleach.

These must have been low use to still be around. Dryer was built early in 1992. These indexing wash basket machines were great for knocking off office dust. The sanitize rinse was indeed on the 1-18 machines. Cool piece of WCI history.

When is a bell/whistle NOT a bell/whistle?

IIRC the "SANITIZE" setting on the 1-18's was like the "SOAK" cycles on early Filter-Flo's also positioned within the Normal cycle's rinse period. In other words, bullshit. It was one more "perk" they could claim in the brochures.

With the Frigies, you put Clorox in the bleach dispenser and set it to SANITIZE and the idea was you could sanitize the tub without running a full cycle and feel safer if you were a moron.

With the FF's one did essentially the same thing and gave your laundry what was more accurately described as a Pre-wash without the convenience of an automatic segue to the WASH cycle. Eventually GE called it an "Activated Soak". As if the user couldn't just run a cycle and interrupt it and allow the laundry to just sit there and soak while the machine was deactivated. And I think users couldn't deactivate the Solid Tub washers for a soak because the water would drain out of the washbasket through that little hole in the bottom of the tub into the outer tub.

I remember setting the dial on our 1962 Perf tub machine at "SOAK" one time because I thought maybe there was some sort of secret switch in the dial that would work if one started it at that exact point. Felt like an idiot.

The GE bullsh*t was introduced before Enzyme soak products were on the market.

Whirlpool had a soak tag at the rinse on Gentle at one point in time.

1992 Frigidaire laundry pair

Those washing machines were just awful did not hold up well if they were used much, the dryer was average it was just a Westinghouse. They were repairable, at least.

Looks like they had a badly adjusted gas burner, or it was operated in a very dirty environment, where is Bradford White when we need him, I could just hear his comments on it, lol

Am not seeing another set of laundry appliances listed for this estate auction. So either these Frigidaire units were well taken care of and lasted duration, or maybe otherwise lightly used.
