Just got our new Speed Queen laundry center delivered over the weekend. It's model # SF7007WE, and is replacing an older stacked GE washer/dryer that was starting to make loud noises. We were hoping the GE could be repaired inexpensively, but the technician said it would be cost-prohibitive as it would need to be completely disassembled to get at the bearings that needed to be replaced. The GE was only about 6 years old, so it was disappointing it didn't last longer.

So we set out to find something with commercial build quality that will hopefully last a long time. Our laundry room is very small and the door pretty narrow, so we had to go with a stacked unit again. The appliance store nearby had a wide selection and this unit seemed to have pretty good reviews. I was considering an LG model as well, but wanted something that was simple to operate without a bunch of unnecessary features like WiFi, etc.

It seems to work well so far and gets clothes clean. I do like that you can choose the various water temps and spin speeds. It doesn't have an onboard water heater, but makes the wash water as hot as what comes from our electric water heater. This is also my first steam capable dryer and that feature does seem to get most wrinkles out of dress shirts.

Does anyone else have a Speed Queen stackable and if so, what are your thoughts?

The convenient controls

The control placement is really great. Lots of separate stackables have the dryer controls above 6'. It also looks like each unit could be replaceable.

Congratulations! While I don't have the stacked model, I really like my new SQ front-loader. Putting controls for both machines on the washer is a great feature. Glad you got the steam feature with your dryer. Mine does not have that. Hope you'll give us a full review after you've used them for awhile. They're spendy, but built like tanks.

Thanks Eugene! Yeah, the front and center controls are nice to have versus separate ones on each. Hopefully the machines and control panel lasts a long time. I did initially think you could set the water level you want in a Speed Queen, but the manual says the water level is determined by the load size. Seems to be ok though.

What are the power requirements for these units? Is is just one plug that does the washer and dryer or dual cords. What voltage is it.
Thanks
Jon

Hi Jon.

There are actually two separate plugs for the unit (one for washer and one for dryer), which makes me think it could be separated into two units if need be, but I'm not sure. I bought a 10ft 4-prong dryer cord since that is the type of plug I have.

The dryer has 2 voltages listed: One is 120/208V, 23A, 60Hz
The other is 120/240V. 26A

3-wire circuit

Washer is 120V, 60Hz, 9.8A

Congratulations you now have the most durable stackable washer dryer available, you can wash and dry more clothing in a couple hours than any other stackable machine sold worldwide.

This machine should last at least 25,000 loads with a few repairs in between of course.

As you mentioned the washer and dryer have separate power cords, you can separate the two machines for moving purposes or major repair purposes of the washing machine, the washing machine could be used on its own, but the dryer could not be because the controls are located on the washer. But it would be possible to remove the dryer and put a top over the washer I suppose.

Ok next question, how do the controls on the washer that control the dryer connect to each other? Is it blue tooth or a cable that connects the 2?

Jon

The fact there are 2 displays and 2 plugs and 2 of everything shows pretty easily what this is:
Quite literally a dryer bolted onto the washer.

Same parts, except the 2 control boards are fitted behind 1 facia.

Nothing special going on.
No reason to go fancy and complicated, just extend the wiring and make a different UI panel.
