My friends washer that I have change the pump twice has a new problem, flooded laundry room

My friends rental house has one of these washers, I have changed the water pump twice but new problem a flooded laundry room. A long drive from my house to find a 1" x 3" hole in the flat bottom of the outer plastic tub near the back side of tub. How can that happen? Anyway easy for me I can't replace outer tub, time for new machine but I didn't think to measure washer or the tight side to space it fits in, just enough extra room to wiggle it in and out between the dryer and concrete foundation wall. The new Amana/Whirlpool top loaders specification info says 27.5 inches wide, I had thought the direct drives were 27 inches so without another long drive I don't know if the Amana will fit, Whirlpool's front loaders quote a 27 inch width but friend doesn't want to spend for front loader when Amana seems a bargain. Can someone tell me the actual width of a direct drive machine? Thanks

The cabinets are just under 27 inches on the older direct drive machines. I just checked a whirlpool top loader from 2018 and it’s the same. Unless they’ve changed something recently they shouldn’t be any different.
