This morning I was driving passed a second hand shop. I noticed there was a wringer washer standing outside. I had to stop and have a closer look. It was a Miele 75T complete with Miele wringer. It is a semi automatic machine that works with a thermostat and automatic start when the selected temperature is reached. This was the TOL of the Miele wringer washers. The TOL Miele twintub had the same semi automatic system. Both were very expensive machines. At this moment in my life I don't need a wringer washer, but goodness I was tempted!

If it wasn't so far I would be tempted to drive to get that lovely machine !

Any idea on the price they were asking?

Thank you, Louis, Did Miele furnish an official Miele wash stick to lift the hot wash to the wringer or did launderesses just fashion their own out of a sturdy stick?

I hope you are not experiencing discomfort.

Tom

Austin, no I didn't ask. I just made pictures and went on my way. No need to get more tempted. lol

Tom,

Miele didn't have a stick, but tongs. I'm not sure if it was included in the price. Here's a picture.

What a great find, at least you captured the pictures :)

I have a Miele H axis semi automatic machine awaiting restoration which has several styling cues from this machine. The H axis is side to side rather than front to back and does not have a spin

In action!

One either used wringer or spin dryer for extraction, each sold by Miele.

Drain hose on washer found by Louis obviously has been changed from original. Its red color indicates a modern type meant to cope with hot to very high water temperatures.

Late 1940's early 1950's one still could get a Miele washer with tub made of wood.

Miele also offered a round tub wringer washer, the mighty W 155. More than 250,000 units of this model were manufactured during the period of its production from 1945 to 1967.

Timeline of Miele appliances: www.miele.com/en/com/time...

By 1950's washing machines in Germany began moving out of wash houses and basements into main living areas. Miele's square cabinet top loading washers reflected that change. You saw this across Europe as other manufactures also brought out square tub and compact wringer washers.

For those wondering, yes, Miele did have washing machines that burned solid fuel for heating.

No. W 307 comes to mind. This washer could use any source of fuel for heating: coal, city gas, propane, electricity and steam.

Not sure about elsewhere in Europe

But one can find older washers by Miele and others without looking too hard in Germany. Ditto for ironers and other vintage laundry appliances. Most go for very little money.

Miele Museum

If you ever get the chance, visit the Miele Museum in Gutersloh, Germany. It goes through the history of the company and has many examples of washing machines, dishwashers and vacuum cleaners over the years.

The automatic wringer isn't there ... but this one is ...

Question!

While these were semi-automatic, O.K., but the wringer was hand cranked? Interesting!!! Greg

Washers with manually powered wringers were easier (and cheaper) to design, build, etc.... Power mangles require some sort of transmission or other mechanism to get power from main motor, or perhaps had one of their own.

These washers were "semi-automatic" as such one didn't need to provide wash action. That and many did have timers which would stop wash action. Add a pump and there you are....

If one had to chose one would go with Servis Superheat washer.

Servis offered greater capacity tub and a power wringer.

@Vacbear58

What you've got a hold of there is famous Miele W 477

If one ever shows up on this side of pond I'm having it!

If it’s the same styling it’s most likely an older machine than the W477. For instance a T WA 500.

Have always wanted to nab one of those vintage Persil wash sticks, but prices plus shipping from Germany proved too dear.
