i have removed this from the machine and after emptying the mixture of oil and water spent some time cleaning it .The main shaft bearing is worn and i am wondering can it be replaced or do i need a replacement gear box .In all my years of service i have never opened a gearbox before [usually just fit a new one]but as they are now quite scarce i thought i would just have a look and see if there's anything i can do . Any advice would be most appreciated

a company that make sinter bearings so i ordered 2 [only £2.50 each ] they arrived this morning. I got my measurements wrong .while the inner measurement is right the outer is wrong so i ordered another but i have plans for the others . I am going to try and fit one into the top of the support tube [where in my opinion there should have been one anyway] .If it works the gearbox will have a new self oiling bearing at the bottom and one at the top stopping any play there as well

arrived today so i spent the afternoon fitting it .I have also fitted another in the top of the [worn] support tube .the bearing is glued into place with epoxy glue .Its all put back together and filled with nice fresh oil [just used some car oil if its good enough for a car its good enough for an old washer ] Will put it back on the machine and see how it performs tomorrow
